I enjoyed the gameplay. I think this and GZ have the smoothest gameplay and controls out of any MGS title. The empty deserts and shit story are disgusting pieces of shit.

It's for balance issues, i suppose. It makes you plan your approach and add variety to what tools you use. If you can just clear most/all of a base with only your pistol, then of course most people are going to deprive themselves of content so they can glide through the game.

I don't think of it as an "open world game". It's a stealth game with an open world. It's mostly empty. You're not supposed to go around exploring and discovering shit. It's for the player to make their own approach routes toward objectives, and to let you do stuff like conduct recon from a distance and carry out ambushes between outposts.

I like it. I think it's one of the things the game did right

I hate how much of a grindfest the game is. Fultoning stuff to build up motherbase is such a stupid mechanic.

I'm supposed to be Big fucking Boss, the most famous badass in the Metal Gear universe. Why do I have to personally abduct every sentry, cook, and janitor for my mercenary nation? It doesn't make any sense. Soldiers around the world should be tripping over themselves to join Diamond Dogs.

Volunteers should be the main recruiting mechanic, like dozens of volunteers for every mission. Make fulton expensive and give commanders and specialists in the field really high stats so you can have the *option* of non-lethaling and extracting them. Give high skill characters visible quirks like specific equipment and insignia, eliminating the tedium of scanning everything and adding the gameplay dimension of learning to identify the different specialists of all the factions in the in the game.

Have a mechanic where after capturing an outpost you can drop a flare and a team comes in a chopper and loots everything. There should be a black market where you can purchase vehicles and whatnot, it would make sense and currency should be more important seeing as you're a mercenary and all. The ability to fulton vehicles can be retained but it should be way more expensive, it's OP as fuck that you can wantonly neutralize tanks pretty much by touching them.

I actually liked MGSV, it wasn't perfect but it wasn't trash like everyone says it is.
The controls and game play were improved drastically, the actually populated areas of the map(s) where designed reasonably well imho. The biggest drawbacks where that it was repetitive and the story was not up to par with the rest of the series. Still, it was enjoyable for what it was.
I'm pretty sure you all just hate it because you hyped the fuck out of it for no good reason long before it came out.

I purposefully avoided all the hype around the game, except for the E3 trailers. I was disappointed with the obvious cut content and how the story suffered for it. Loved everything else.
My main other complaint was the empty overworld in free roam, but the infinite heaven mod fixes that right up.

It's not the best MGS game, but it's up there for me.

That's the problem! In order to accommodate that freedom they made the objectives so painfully simple that it doesn't matter what you do.

There's never a situation where you have to think about what you're doing because the game is designed around every possible tactic working all of the time. Surely you can see that the result of that is never going to be as satisfying as traditional gameplay?

This pissed me off more than anything else. The core gameplay mechanics were good, yeah, but overall gameplay is a combination of the mechanics and the world you use them in, and the latter fucking sucked. It was a barren and completely boring place to be, that one level in Ground Zeroes was better than anything in MGSV. The fun mechanics was completely wasted in this game.

Mother Base being so lifeless was disappointing too.

REMINDER: Game was not finished.

Kojima finished Act 1 but Act 2 was still in the process of being wrapped up when Konami told him to release the game. That's why we have repeat missions on very hard. Hell there was even suppose to be an Act 3.

MGS2, MGS3, and even MGS4 took less than 5 years to develop. MGS5 took more than 7 yeas with an 80 million budget. Would Act 3 have made MGS5's shortcomings better?

You don't have enough information what happened behind the scenes. There could be plenty of reasons why he was restricted by Konami or he decides himself not to pull in to much effort since nobody at Konami really gave a fuck about the outcome anyways and forced the release.
MGS2-4 was on developed for ps2/3 completely different level and budget.
And to be honest nobody gives a fuck what you think the game lacked or not. You got a unfinished version of MGS. Deal with it faggot and back off to minecraft.
