I don't think that's because Plat is INCAPABLE of making long games, but that they actively choose not to.
Plat's worlds are very densely-packed by design.
We've only seen one real attempt at an RPG-like world by Plat, which is Transformers Devastation, and the game was maybe 5 hours long but it literally only had the budget for two levels (you played each one twice, plus two little side-missions on a bridge).
What we've seen of the world so far suggests there will be a multitude of large worlds (probably 4-5 at minimum) that have towns and sidequests which will likely stretch the game length out substantially. When the world isn't a bent-up hallway with fights every 15 feet the game goes much slower.
Duration isn't what we should look at from Plat games, but content quantity, and from that perspective their games are enormous. They're just designed to be over in an afternoon so they can be replayed frequently without padding, rather than to cover a long stretch of time to help pace a more developed story
If that doesn't put your mind at ease, bear in mind Taro's stated process for writing Nier A is to look at the budget, ask Plat how many levels they can squeeze out of that budget, and then write the story to fill that space, meaning it's Taro behind the size/length of the game and he's maximizing it as much as possible.

I feel like a weirdo for actually finding Drakengard kind of fun to play up until I did the Free Expeditions where you have to kill every fucking enemy on the map pretty much to clear them. That's only if you want to get Ending E though and if you really don't want to do the grind then you could download a save with all the weapons collected after you reach Ending D. If you do the grind then seriously, use a guide cause some of those weapons are impossible to find otherwise.
The air combat is actually fairly fun and the quality of the ground combat is dependent on how much you like the Square button.

That's only if you want to get Ending E though and if you really don't want to do the grind then you could download a save with all the weapons collected after you reach Ending D. If you do the grind then seriously, use a guide cause some of those weapons are impossible to find otherwise.

I liked how the endings to Drakengard highlighted the letter they were in the title of the ending. Do any of the other games do that? I don't remember Nier even having titles for the endings which is a shame. Still have yet to play 2 or 3 but I have 3 sitting next to my PS3 which I'll get around to soon.

People are saying this like Platinum are entirely in charge of the core game design, when we know Taro and Squeenix have the bulk of creative control and Platinum have core gameplay at the very most.
The game will be like your standard Taro affair with a ton of story padded with grinding. The only difference is that the grinding combat might actually be really good fun because of Platinum's input. Worst case scenario, they don't bring their A-game and it's merely above average for Taro-game combat instead of outright fantastic. I don't know why everyone is so worried.

As was discovered some time ago, demos cost more than viral marketing and hype and can serve to make people not blindly buy a game, were it to be bad, or an individual not interested in the game.
There are considerably more people who will buy a game without concrete knowledge of it than there are people who will not buy it without, so giving us a demo is foolish from an economic perspective.

I think the best way to grind up weapons was to just grind the first or second level in the game over and over, and at minimum you have to beat a level 4 times just for 1 weapon because experience doesn't overflow.
So if you know how long it takes you to kill everything in a big map once, multiply that by 4, then multiply that by how many weapons you have left.
