So PD2 is nearing the end of its current free weekend on Steam, is it worth playing? Some time ago I heard there was a big stink about microtransactions or some shit.
Don't bother. The game was fucking fantastic around 2014 autumn. However it has only gone down a slippery slope afterwards and is only a shadow of its former self.
Its around the same tier of dev incompetence as what happened to Tribes Ascend

They tried to do the crates/keys thing and announced it as a feature during the community event last year and the fires basically swallowed the game. Shit ran until last month when they ended it. Saddens me that people were willing to spend thousands on shiny weapon skins, though. And that shit was locked away. I don't mind DLC. I do mind that scummy bullshit where a game does to Valve's level when it comes to a lack of care for their community.
As for now? Payday 3 is happening. Payday 2 is still fun enough now and again. Crates that drop can now be opened freely.
Not sure if anything has been learned or if they even realize what they did wrong.

Microtransactions are removed, it's easy to find games as the community is very much alive and the game itself is fairly fun. They're still working on the game and improving it, recently they overhauled the skill tree system and made it way better. I recommend you to try it out while it's still free.

I downloaded it and didn't play it for 2-3 days. I got hooked first playthrough, 6 hours first time around. I already have 70+ hours.
Currently what's the best heist and character pack I can buy?
I'm in doubt between Big Bank, the butcher ones and Golden Grin Casino
And about characters, I'm thinking about getting jiro(cuz I'm a fucking closet weeb) and the slav fuccboi. There's also ron fucking pearlman, but hes's not on sale, so I'd rather wait for another chance
the only shitty thing about this game is that they are gating the good perk decks behind a pay wall one of the best perk decks is grinder and you have to buy the sokol character pack for that. there are other good character packs that also have some good shit for example if you wanna do anything with melee you need the japanese dude character pack because the katana packs the biggest punch. if you wanna do stealth you need to get the clover character pack. if you like slower armour gameplay the best perk deck for that comes with the sydney character pack.
I got the game and use the LUA unlocker. everything was fun and all. then the witch hunt begins. and now if you want to join a game the host start going all NSA on your ass. and you get kick.
Then you think "this shit is not PVP, why ppl get buttblasted by a guy unlocking weps to actually help in the game?"
But yeah you can create your lobby and have fun whit the cheat comunity.

Download the LUA unlocker (pirate supremaci, i think its called) copy paste on your game folder and done.
when you play the game you will have menus to edit your money, stats, lv, have all the mask, have all guns, and have all. whitout paying the shit ton of DLC.
BUTTTT.... if you use this and join a game hosted by a fag they will see a big red CHEATER on your head. and probably kick you. but again you can host your games and people will join. if they dont like it YOU kick them.

Best character pack you can buy is Clover if you are into stealth, doesn't matter that much if you mainly play loud, sydney is ok, sokol is ok rest is irrelevant, jiro is good if you enjoy an old japanese yakuza guy shouting in various different pitches.
Best heist DLC, Don't buy bomb or transport dlcs if you like fun, those are not fun at all except train and dockyard, and their rewards are not properly balanced so it's not worth the effort at all. Big Bank is really good both stealth and loud, Golden Grin is really good both stealth and loud but the heist still has some issues like low fps at some points, people not being able to connect to the lobby at all. Alesso is fun if you like loud, stealth is pretty good up until last phase, last objective's mechanics is destroyed by the delay the game has so most of the time people will break stealth at that point no matter what(it's a maze of guards basically and desync makes sure you fail that if you play with other players), Biker heist is fun, Point break heists are fun, the diamond is fun in stealth not so much in loud. wolf pack dlcs are fun aswell. that's all i guess

because most of the time there's no way to pinpoint what exactly you've done,invalid mod means the person might've altered the mods or the weapon itself to make it OP and therefore ruin the experience for the others, and if you're equipping deathwish mask without the achievement you're most likely a shitter as you can get that by playing the game enough anyway, if it says cheater you can be sure i'm not gonna give you the benefit of doubt and ask what you're actually using, cheaters are pieces of shit in general, it's only acceptable if you're using it to host dlc maps you don't want to buy. There are thousands of people that play the game legit, i'm not gonna waste time and effort on asking if you use cheats that only unlock what the game offers or if you're modifying the game files to make the game easy mode for yourself and ruin the experience of others, it's just not worth it.
From the default two you start with, how do you lot decide which guns to roll with from there?

I'd say it mosly depends on what weapons you usually like playing more in other games. For instance, I just love popping helmets with shotguns (locomotive is a must for shotties), but assault rifles tend to be the most used weapons overall.
Anyway
> don't underestimate pistols, most aren't that great with decent aim and moderate damage, but you can kick ass with their akimbo versions and with the right perks.
Recomended pistols: Deagle or Bronco
>assault rifles are the bread and butter of the game, most people you find online will be using one
Recommended for startes: I think the CAR rifle(don't remember the actual name) is a good choice, highly modable

>snipers are dlc only, only one worth mentioning is the Thanatos, which can take down bulldozers quite easily
After these kind of guns come the dlc exclusives like grenade launchers, but it'll be better if you care about then when you've accumulated more play time and start thinking about buying dlc
