Well, since PC gaming is more or less going to be exclusive to Windows 10 in a year+ (especially now that DX12 is 10 exclusive), is there any point to delaying the inevitable? Spyware is now?

Just run all these powershell scripts and then Windows 10 will be shill-free

If it dose become windows 10 exclusive then pc gaming would be considered dead as a doorknob
Games are just shifting to dx11, and dx12 is ass to code for so... no. Windows 7 will hold out longer than XP.
8.1, not like any game out there uses direct x 12 decently enough. Also windows store exclusives can suck a dick. I use steam.

I want to upgrade but I'm literally retarded and fear that it will damage my files/games.
What about vulkan?
I this thing good?
Linux with GPU passthrough for Windows-exclusive titles. It's not 100% efficient, but it's close enough that it's a decent compromise.

>first issue
Disabling a non-essential service breaks part of the OS? Right.
8.1 master OS reporting in.
DX 12 is currently shitting the bed but we'll see how it performs later.
But, yes, 10 is inevitable.

May I just receive the usage rights and then not deal with win10 until it's necessary in 6 years? If I must keep it installed, can I just shelve it on a partition and forget it exists or something?

I'd sooner switch to apple than accept w10
I'm hoping windows 10 will finally be the push people need to switch to ganoo loonix.

I missed those

I wonder if Windows can be Orwellian enough to make mustardrace go back to consoles.
>>343609380
This has been said at least since vista, maybe xp. Unless MS finds a way to literally obliterate the older OS's people won't change platform.
>>343609590
They won't "go back" to consoles because consoles came after PC.
Besides that, if it truly reached Orwellian standards of big brother, it would probably kill PC gaming as we know it.

>Windows 10 will be shill-free
This is not possible if you have a machine running Windows 10 that's connected to the internet. It's designed from the ground up to be a certain way, disabling things and intentionally breaking some parts won't make it not malware.
>>343609739
I know a lot of people who first started playing video games on a console, then later switched over to PC, but I see your point.
>>343609597
the only only real reason to use windows is because software you want to use is windows only. people have stuck with it because of convenience and familiarity, but the more bullshit microshill adds the less it becomes worth it.

>tfw still using Vista SP2
I literally have no reason to upgrade
>>343609973
You could also... read your own link.
Windows 10 is almost certainly "free" so they can 1. create a software ecosystem (developers must believe there are or will be users) and 2. harvest data. A subscription would only work against those goals.

I tried to switch over to linux, but it would randomly lose video unless I recompiled nvidia drivers myself, and then I couldn't find the repositories or something. Like what the fuck, I thought the xkcd comic was a joke, but no, if you want to start using linux you really do need to compile your own drivers, fuck that
>>343609590
Consoles are slowly gaining all the downsides of PC gaming with none of the advantages.
>>343609237
>>343610792
I've been using Linux for a decade and I have not once compiled my own driver.
Did games magically-shift to D3D10 after Vista's launch? No, sperglords doubled-down on XP for half a decade even after 7 hit, and even then, when devs DID give us a D3D11 executable, it was alongside a D3D9 one, and only now are we getting sole D3D11 games with 9 being reserved for the shittiest of the shit console ports
DX12 is DX10 all over again

Running it for a year, it's most safe windows I ever ran. They may spy on you but at least they do not let others do that.
Also UI if you know where to click is faster than 7. All and all best windows to date.
First months weren't that good but when support rolled in it is great.

we will know when long promised doom vulkan patch comes out
