Generally, the 'long' animations are either ad libs, which are triggered by chance, or Dual Arts. Neither of which you will be seeing constantly. I honestly never get tired of seeing them.
If anything, I would describe the combat in general as being very fast paced.

That would be even worse, I've never understood why anyone ever says this and I'm surprised I ever have to argue it. The only reason to think so is "the original was on DS and the 3DS is its successor", but the reality is the Wii U has the best and biggest touch screen nintendo currently offers and all its graphical power can go behind it, while the 3DS' touch screen is tiny and only secondary to the 3D screen, it just wouldn't work unless downgraded to a 10$ eshop game that could afford to not use the system to its entirety
Looking at the gamepad all the time is the best compromise, people think the game looks too good to be restricted to that res, but just think restricting it to the 3DS' lower screen of all things
And no, it won't work with the graphics on top and drawing on bottom, it would be even worse than staring at the TV and drawing on the gamepad without looking

Imo Rainbow Curse is the game that uses the gamepad the best and I'm glad the title is on Wii U.
