I did a quick test of Higan vs. znses with fe4 (I should've picked a more intensive game probably). Higan maxed out one core (or 25% overall usage) of my 3570k, but there was not slowdown or graphical errors. zsnes (written in assembly and the best performing snes emulator afaik) used 7% but had minor errors. No harm in trying both for yourself though

Mednafen for everything except
PCSX-R for 3D if you like render at high resolutions and Mednafen has become too slow
ePSXe is fine but development is slower than PCSX-R so it's generally a little worse.
But all 3 should work with most games.
If you encounter glitches with one you can switch to the other.
But Mednafen is the best, even better than Sony's official PS1 emulator
