Anyways, bullshit. They wouldn't risk redesigning Sonic again. Especially after Sega apologizing for getting too far from the source. I could see them making a "Classic Sonic" game akin to Generations again. After all, it's another anniversary they're coming up on. But they aren't going to go nuts with anything new. Boom is a huge improvement over the main franchise from an asthetic point of view.
IMO they should just adopt the visual style to the new games while keeping the gameplay the run-fast schlock people like so much, I don't know what were they thinking to make it a beat 'em up 3D platformer, those two just don't mix well

What I don't get is why you think it's genius. It's not. Using the same old cookie-cutter conventions for EVERYTHING when a series already exists for decades and doesn't need such brainless conventions as "THIS guy wears glasses! Get it audience? He's a nerd!" Not everything needs to be so overstated visually. Kids aren't THAT dumb, they could probably tell the guy with spiky fists is a brawler without having shoulders as broad as a barn.
I'm mostly fine with Boom's designs, but the sentiment that everything needs to be the same and everyone should fall into age old tropes is boring as shit.

Ideally, Jim would be packaged with 90's edge on the surface, but still be zany antics and wacky villains. A lot of people forget the grotesque monster designs and grossout/edgy settings like traveling through intestines. The second level of the first game, he went to hell.
In reality, he'd probably be marketed to be goofy and random because that is all anyone remembers.

First off, when did I brag about the story in Sonic? You'll have to point that one out to me.
Second, you are the one who sounds like a film school reject claiming "tropes are everything! We must discard subtlety and embrace every obnoxious theme a character can have because it 'enhances the experience!' " Or at the very least, a very shitty course instructor without any grasp of nuance.
It's fine to lean on a trope or two, but to just toss in every single one "because everyone else did" is not good design. This is not a decision someone with any grasp of design would ever suggest.
