OK /v/, I've been seeing this controller get shilled around here for some reason so like a good lil goy I went and got myself one to report back here. I'm using it exclusively on the PC (DS3 finally died). It's third party and certainly not perfect, but it's actually decent for the price.

I'll start with the good: build is solid, doesn't "feel" like shit plastic but actually like something from a home console. Buttons are responsive. Testing dead zones, they're about what you would expect from a 360 pad (one that hasn't gone to shit yet anyway). Stick placement is like a Dual Shock but has grips like the Xbone. Speaking of DS, this coming from Hong Kong I wouldn't be surprised if they ripped the mold straight from a DS4 because it juuuuust almost feels exactly like one (tiny bit smaller though, obviously no touch pad). Battery life has actually been pretty solid when I use it wireless (gunna get to that in a second).

The meh: I think the motors are from old smartphone parts or something? Certainly doesn't "rumble" like a first party controller - it does, but I can actually hear it whirring in there when it gets high enough... Have a feeling this may have been where they cut corners to make this cheap but imo it's not terrible. I see anons ask how the dpad is on this and don't get a response... It works. It's better for those kind of games where you bring up prompts vs actually playing on it. Playing Donkey Kong wasn't such a fun experience on this, I mean it works but it isn't so precise like one you'd find on a DS3 or SNES pad. It's good for the chat messages in Rocket League but you sure as shit shouldn't be playing Street Fighter with this dpad.

>>
The bad: If you are going to use this on PC, I hope your wireless dongle (connected to USB) is fucking line of sight to this thing. I'm fairly close to my PC on my desk yet I have to point the god damn thing directly at the dongle to go wireless. Might be better off for you if this is going into a laptop or something. I've had to FB message the company to ask for a firmware update which supposedly fixes this, not sure why it's not hosted on the website. I've had to stick to playing on a longer micro USB cable in the meantime, which I can deal with but I can see would be a problem for others. (I tried connecting to Bluetooth but it doesn't recognize it as xinput so fuck that I guess). Connecting this thing as an Xbox controller to my PC was a struggle too, the engrish pamphlet tells me one way then it took actually looking at the back of the controller to see it was a different method.

I've been playing Rocket League for the past two hours with this and after "adjusting" to it not being my DS3, I was right back to pulling aerial shots n shit just fine. First party controllers are clearly king but this isn't so bad if you need something on the cheap if you don't mind keeping it wired (or you can point your controller straight at the USB dongle).

I give this a 3........................................... out of 5.

That's cool OP. Never heard of it.
For PC I use my DS4 for modern games and Wii U pro for emulation. Highly recommend them to everyone.

I'm interested, would the Dpad be ok for old 2D games like Alttp or similar games?

Rip OP
>>
>>343597226
OP again

Dpad "worked" like I said but it isn't prime for playing 2D games. Playing Donkey Kong Country the dpad felt stiff. Works fine for, say, in Rocket League when you spam the chat with it but for precision look somewhere else.
>>
>>343598087
You mentioned the DS4 a few times so is the Dpad on that one better?
>>
>>343598231
Sorry I'm not being too clear. I'll do it like this

This dpad < DS4 dpad < DS3 dpad

(my opinion no bully)

DS4 has a better dpad though, feels less sectioned

A PS3 controller (with SCPtoolkit) is the best I've found, but using third party drivers to get it recognised as a valid pad is a fucking pain when they bug out.

Does the GameSir use mechanical buttons at all? The R1 and L1 stand out a bit making me think they might use rubber domes.

On that topic I'd like to see some gamepads come with them for things like the d-pad and face buttons as well. I've modded them in myself and it's pretty great.

>>
>>343609074

>>
>>343609257
Measure the height of the rubber domes you're replacing, order tactile switches of the same height, solder them onto the button contacts.

This sounds cool as fuck desu, didn't even realize it could be done
>>
>>343609381
Any particularly switches you recommend?
>>
>>343609381
It's probably a lot harder than it sounds. I say this because a lot of buttons are made with precision. Replace the rubber with switches, you got spacing issues to worry about.

I don't use a Wii U Pro pad, but I agree on the DS4. I used to swear by the 360 pad, but the DS4 is my go-to for controller games on PC now and likely will be for the foreseeable future. The touchpad is actually one of my favorite features; not as a mouse, but as extra buttons that I can rebind to shit like push to talk and such. I really wish more controllers had extra buttons for stuff like that. It looks like OP's controller does, but I don't know if both are easy to rebind (I assume turbo is, but I'm not sure what "clear" is supposed to do).

I did replace my analog sticks with Xbone style sticks, though. I never had the originals start peeling apart (which is especially impressive because it's the controller that came with my launch model PS4 and I've used it pretty extensively, but I felt like they lacked traction somehow, like my thumbs easily slipped off.

What I really want more than anything would be a DS4 with a rubberized coating. That would be a fucking 11/10 controller for me.
>>
>>343609667
There's various manufacturers and I only tried a few. The C&K's that I used I didn't like, but I can't remember why. Probably the most important thing is the activation force required to push the button down. I tried 1N and 1.6N for the D-pad but the 1.6N I think is too hard to press. Using it on touhou made it difficult to do small movements and kinda wore my finger out. I have some 0.65N ones but they're so easy to push I'm not sure if they'll work out. I kinda just bought a bunch from mouser.com for my first attempts, made 2 modded pads so far.

>>343609914
One of my pads used 4mm high domes and I couldn't find any of that height, only 3.8mm and 4.3mm. I ended up using 4.3mm ones but I also had to put something underneath them to have something to solder to since the contacts were completely underneath the button. These made them sit too high and I have to have the screws loose on that one or they're pushed down all the time. A few other things went wrong doing that one but it was my first try so it's to be expected I guess. At least it's still fully functional now.

>>343609981
There's a 22 dollar listing on ebay, new.

>>343606035
I've never had any issues with DS4 Windows, personally. In the words of the almighty Toddler, "it just works." Battery life is indeed fucking awful though.

>>
>>343611258
Fair enough, just remember that a jack of all trades is a master of none. Personally I'm the same, I don't feel the need to bother with different controllers, but I understand why others do. The only one I don't really understand is wheel & pedal setups, because I drive a lot just recreationally and any time I try to use a wheel for a racing game I'm just constantly reminded of the fact that I'm not actually driving and am instead playing a video game. I find it impossible to get immersed, whereas I can still manage to with a regular controller. I know that's really weird and I'm probably the only person like this.

I will definitely try a wheel again after I or someone I know gets a VR headset, though. Those driving game VR webms make my dick rock hard. I can totally see myself playing an open world driving game like The Crew for hours upon hours just as a road trip simulator.
>>
>>343611741
No. Android in general is shit for emulation, and the GPD XD being underpowered doesn't help.

Nope, driving irl and in a game is way too different. I feel you. Also what some people do and I believe is the best is to buy whatever controller you prefer stick placement on and then get something like the Buffalo SNES controller for everything else.

I would give my left nut for a Wii U Pro controller with Analog triggers and 2 buttons on the back. Would literally be the best thing ever.
>>
>>343611796
The buttons are way too apart. DS4 is still sectioned and precise, but just close enough that it still feels like an actual dpad.
>>
>>343611321
you're late >>343602859
>>
>>343611941
The only concern I have with a VR headset + wheel set up is that it's still going to lack the momentum and g-forces of driving. If someone ever finds a way to simulate those without some giant machine that costs a billion dollars, then I'll fucking strap myself to an IV drip and sit on a toilet and just never stop playing vidya.

Actually now that I'm thinking about it, that wouldn't just be useful for driving games. Imagine playing a shooting game in VR and someone shoots you, and you actually feel the impact and get knocked back by it. I mean, nothing painful, just enough to really feel something. I think this is the next big step for VR, but I don't have the slightest idea how one would go about it.
