Explain this crap, this is stupid.

Shout-outs to games that let you increase your jump power and only change your fall damage immunity to at most null a standing jump onto a surface that was at the same altitude as your initial position.

Think of it this way.

Your bones have a finite amount of force they can withstand before they break.

So when you land from a high jump, your legs either break, or they dont

Some games let you jump a couple frames after you leave a platform. A sort of grace period. I think that's ok. Some games take it further.

The worst is games with double jumping that don't let you double jump if you've simply fallen off a platform, and games that only let you double jump immediately after your first jump.

Depends on the game, I guess. You want very little fall damage on a game with lots of verticality and an emphasis on exploration. It was pretty liberating in XBX jumping off huge cliffs. Deus Ex HR had augment that negated fall damage for a small investment. I think it's unlocked from the beginning in the sequel. Dishonored let you teleport to the ground and had an upgrade that lowered fall damage regardless.

But fall damage does have a purpose, to punish players for fucking up jumps and adding a level of risk to games with platforming elements.
