The Dragon Stones. They're the game's currency for summoning characters and shit.
When you Z-Awaken or Dokkan Awaken a character, they get a large boost to their strength that makes them do more damage to the type they're strong to, as well as take less damage from that type.
Characters that are good/heroes are labeled SUPER *TYPE* when awoken, while evil/villainous ones are given EXTREME. There's no functional difference except in certain events where you can only use Super or Extreme characters.

Super = Heroes, Extreme = Villains
Some versions of Vegeta and Piccolo are one or the other. In gameplay terms, they both do bonus damage to each other, as well as to cards that aren't Super or Extreme. They do normal damage to themselves.

Well eventually you'll want your team to have some synergy to it, and that's when you really start paying attention to shit like link bonuses and passives. For now, just find your best leader and make a team for them.
Also, hang on to SR's, even if you end up getting a ton of SSR's. A lot of them eventually get Dokkan forms, where they can be turned into more powerful cards.
Generally, I wouldn't roll outside of Dokkan Festivals (where you can get the really, REALLY good shit) or maybe special discount events. Most normal summon banners aren't terribly exciting, and don't fall for the single-type scams. There's the Gogeta/Janemba event coming up really, really, REALLY soon, and a 77 stone gift also coming very soon. So I would go ham on that, and don't spend anything until then.

No Dokkan event for gacha cards has changed a character's 'form', so if we ever did get a Kaioken SSB Goku it will be a new card that upgrades with an event.
SSJ Vegetto is going to be his own card in a few days, leaving the other regular Vegettos to rot unless they get a pity Dokkan like the other Beerus cards did.
Hopefully there's a farmable Vegetto during the first part of the Dokkan event so you can at least raise the SA level of the old Vegettos.

Never thought I'd be this hype for a DBZ game. In midst of all the changes, I really hope there's a lot more customization options. Dumping it all at one time is overpowering but diminishes over distance, where slow and steady can outlast a huge push over a distance. JoJo is about 50/50. They both do things better than the other.
DB has aged incredibly. Everything it's done has either stood the test of time as something truly unique yet to be touched, or has directly inspired some of the most beloved anime and manga ever made.
