Hey, I'm new to PC Gaming and I would really appreciate some help here

I'm about to order the parts for my first build and I'd like to know what you think about it

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/fvbgLD

btw, is a founders edition really that bad? I waited for months now to build that damn thing, and I don't want to wait another 2-3 months until some other edition of the GTX 1070 is out. Also, pcpartpicker doesen't know the power supply I want to get, so I just inserted some random in the list. Here's the one I actually want to get:

Seems pretty solid, though I'd get a better case. Cases are suppose to put you through multiple builds and using a shitty cramped case with no air flow for 5+ years is a terrible feeling.

I see what youre getting at though, you wanted to skimp on something/bring the price down a bit, I did the exact same thing on my first build.
Was using that shitty $50 mid tower for years before I finally got sick of it. Upgraded to a CM Storm Trooper Full Tower about a year ago and I couldnt believe how much better it was; everything fit perfectly, air flow is great, TONS of space, and accessibility made it a dream to work with.

That's literally my build except I have a 390
I haven't been able to finish it tho because when I was struggling to install the massive heatsink I got for it I somehow bent some of the CPU pins on the mobo :(
New mobo in the mail by the 11th

I like to sit on the parts for a month and wait for sales. Shit goes on sale all the time.
You can save a fucking bundle if you are patient.

Is this your first time building? Would be good to have a friend help you. It isn't hard, but it can be kind of scary if you aren't used to handling components.

Oh shit wait a tick, I just realized you have no storage, dude.

I see one SSD at 250GB and imma tell you right now that shit wont last you a year.
If you plan to play 1 or 3 games you may be fine, but if you want game libraries, movies, tv shows, or porn on your system, then you gotta step it up to a 1 or 2TB HDD.

You probably already researched the benefits of SSDs and I'll tell you its pretty worth it, but you cant use it as your main storage. A friend of mine had a 4TB HDD and 250GB SSD setup that he claimed was worth the buy. He kept the bulk of his stuff on his HDD and put the frequently used stuff, like his OS and some games he loved, on his SSD. I asked him if the loading times on start up were really worth it and he told me "I loads up like 'bing', man.".
Its completely up to you, but I still see it as opulent.

Yeah, it's my first time. I have someone that will be with me over skype while I build it. I hope it goes well.

not the guy you're replying to, but i have my os on a 250 ssd, my games on a 500 ssd, and a secondary 250 ssd for media projects.
i couldn't fit my entire steam backlog on my 500, true, but there's only a handful i play at any given time barring my standard go-tos for entertainment. load times are more or less non-existant, even for nu-doom and witcher 3.
i use an external hdd i bought back in the stone age to hold my music and movies.

tl;dr
ssds are not as cheap, but are reasonably convenient for gaming use, but not so much for audio/visual media storage.

You know how it is man, you aint looking for parts until you need um.
My general advice is get a full tower and pay a ballpark $100 for it.

Also if you havent seen it heres a cheat sheet: logicalincrements.com

Personally, I don't think games benefit enough from SSD.
I literally use a 250gb ssd just for my OS and programs along with a 2tb WD black for games.
Suits me fine.
>>
>>343557442
Do you think they use SSD's in the military?
>>
>>343557442
I totally get where youre coming from, as my HDDs get more and more bloated these days my load times just get terribly painful.
Im sure if you used your system exclusively for gaming your favorite games and switching to the 'new hotness', you wouldnt run into much trouble.
Its just for me most of my space is getting eaten by porn that can 'NEVER BE DELETED' in my mind. Also gotta keep a decent stock of movie/tv shows in case I gotta entertain friends.

You can nab a 500GB SSD for $100 now. I've started using them for everything but backup.
>>
>>343558504
Some games do. My friend loved World of Warships, and I can tell you for sure, playing on his rig was a SHITTON smoother than on mine.
>>
>>343558504
Same, my SSD's just for the barebones essential stuff. Most of my games are on my 2TB and I haven't had any load time problems.
>>
>>343559191
shit the price really has gone down, just the thought of that gets me excited.
>>
>>343555697
Yeah just be careful when you install the heatsink that you don't end up sliding it around like I did. I doubt you'll have that problem unless you got the same one I did because the frame on the bottom didn't fasten completely until the whole thing was screwed in and it was big and heavy so I had to have someone else hold it. I doubt you'll need something that big for an i5. I luckily have a smaller heatsink lying around that I won't have to struggle to install.

when i was stationed on the kittyhawk, they were still using windows NT. then again, that was over a decade ago, and cv-63 was commisioned in like '64. how new the hardware is depends entirely on the branch of service and the command. some air force fly-by-wire drone hotshit might use ssds, but considering how much our defense budget has been slashed, i'd say ssds are far and few between. hell, even back then defense budget kept getting slashed over and over. tfw i witnessed the deaths of the old single-seater F/A-18 hornet, S-3 viking, AND the F-14. would you believe they killed the F-14 and the F/A-18 just to have a two-seater version of the 18? super hornet isn't worth it, but fuck, at least it isn't the F-35 (and what a load of shit that thing is!)

>>343558914
p much why i've got this old paperweight of an external hd. 100 gig was pretty fucking awesome for an hd when i bought it. built like a tank with it's own external power supply. it's lasted me over 10 years. handy enough for bringing movies over to my friends' houses. mkv format really doesn't take up all that much space.

i really ought to buy a new external hd, but this undying son of a bitch has been faithful all this time. i'll probably find something smaller and more efficient on newegg this fall.
