At the very least, we know this pikaclone will have some sort of gimmick related to new stuff in the gen, cause all others have shown off some new feature. Pichu is a baby pokemon, Plusle and Minun are for double battles, Pachirisu has gender differences, Emolga was in rustling grass patches, and Dedenne was fairy type. Chances are, this new one will have something special about it, even if it isn't that good. It will probably have some sort of niche where it is good though.

Basically, there's only so many roles you can fulfill on a team, so if they constantly make GREAT Pokémon, old Pokémon become useless due to a power creep.
