I honestly believed that the story was heading towards Wei flipping, killing his CO's and becoming the top dog of the Sun On Yee. Like that korean fil, The New World.
Honestly, the fact that the conflict between his loyalties had no interplay with the gameplay mechanics(forcing you to choose your loyalties at certain points, or determining your loyalties by your overall playstyle and having that affect the story) is the game's biggest problem.
I know this sounds weird, but I think a Type-0 sequel with Napping Puppers combat could actually be pretty cool.
Mafia 3 looks like half-assed shit so I'll probably just send up buying the Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition.

The ideal Sleeping Dogs game would have you balancing your cover story for the Sun On Yee with your obligations as a cop. You have to keep delivering intel and avoid killing people so you don't get pulled out, but on the other hand you have to keep your cover with the Sun On Yee intact, and get effective enough so you'll still get promoted within their ranks.
If you stray too far in either direction, you either get pulled out or you get killed. I'm thinking something like X-Com, where you lose if enough countries pull out of the council.
It's a damn shame that this entire conflict was constrained to cutscenes in the actual game.

I think the strength of Sleeping Dogs is the quantity of the content.
If you take the shooting by itself, it's kind of mediocre. If you take the combat by itself it's very shallow and doesn't have that many moves. This goes on for everything else about the game.
Put it all together though and you get something great.
