I love the series and I agree with this.
PP advertises itself as an idol game yet it has almost nothing from management games like idolm@ster or dancing mechanics like Project Diva.
It's just an extremely long and boring non-canon VN in which the girls talk directly to you, who acts as their self-inserted manager. If you have a waifufag fetish then at least you can take some enjoyment from this game(specially on Nep's story since she drops everything to be yours permanently).
What little gameplay this game has in its idol concerts is solely comprised of camera controls. You keep doing concerts and talking to the girls to make your stats increase higher and higher until you reach a point where victory becomes assured with a slight tilt of the analog stick.
In terms of story it's completely pointless since there's no main plot to follow, no goal to save the world or rescue someone or anything, it's just slice-of-life stuff with comments on their performance as idols along with a few awkward situations of them growing fond of you.

I've only played the Re;Birth games, U and Noire, but one thing they all have in common is that the gameplay is dreadfully mediocre with no unique mechanics and not much thought required to get through any of them. The RPG systems are barebones, terribly unbalanced and sometimes broken as fuck, and for any amount of extra content you'll be grinding through the really repetitive gameplay for hours upon hours.
The writing and characters are mediocre and feel like a missed opportunity of capitalizing a decent, if dumb, idea. The music is terrible, and so is the presentation. And last, the rehashed and reused assets and content are just shameful.
It's my opinion at the end of the day, and if you enjoy it, cool. But I find them to be really trashy games, when someone says "kusoge" the first thing that comes to mind is this whole fucking series.

If anything, secondary characters like IF and Compa are considerably weaker because they can't transform like Neptune, Noire and the others. You play as them only if you really want a more difficult experience, it's optional.

Noire failed as an SRPG as soon as it decided to reuse the same story maps for sidequests and the like. Even as an SRPG, and even when made by a developer with years of expertise in the genre like Sting, it still fucking failed. I'm honestly baffled, I don't know if it was CH forcing their awful decisions on them to keep the game in line with the rest of the series, or something else. It really doesn't. You don't have to grind in order to get swimsuits, costumes or extra stories in many JRPGs, only the worst ones. And generally, even grindan games like Disgaea tend to have good gameplay and mechanics to back that up, so it never becomes as tedious as it does in Nep games.

funny how I went through all three games without ever using Rush attacks at all, I usually stuck to Break attacks to dispel their barriers and finish the fight with Power combos instead.

The balls are physical manifestations of the excessive magic power she has. She keeps accumulating power on her crown until the ball grows big enough, then she drops it and starts growing another.
She sells them to people to spread them around different places. If they were all kept within the same space for too long, then all of these balls would merge into a huge spirit bomb and blow up.
