I stopped playing as much around the early 1.8 Official. The game just...doesnt really have any charm left for me. I haven't even been on the server I moderate on in 4 months, probably demoted by now.
They really haven't done anything significant with it to warrant me still playing. They cant change much of anything without pissing off their autistic fanbase so its kinda in a state of "what the fuck do we do besides add blocks and new enemies that don't do anything for the game".

i was playing ftb expert skyblock mode and stopped at the bigreactors phase
because the next recipes were all draconic evolution bullshit i didn't feel like doing, since they don't match the scheme of any of the tech mods, yet it's a requirement for progression to them
I stopped playing it a few years ago when I realised that all they were doing was adding more and more blocks to needlessly complicate the game.
They tried to go the survival route, but instead of balancing that and making it a challenge, it is ridiculously easy on any difficulty because it turns out the hunger mechanic is easily defeated by bread.
Maybe it's entertaining to autists who don't know what fun is, but I dropped that trash hard.

I stoppedplaying Minecraft pretty much right after I got Terraria.
I could probably enjoy MC if I played on a heavily modded server with pregression and boss fights and shit like Terraria has, but vanilla minecraft is pretty stale. I do love redstone though. wiring in Terraria isnt as cool as minecraft.
I still load it up every year for a few weeks/months. On that kick again now actually. But then I've a group of friends that cycles games like this. Vindictus, Minecraft, Left4Dead, Planetary Annihilation and whatever else comes along.

I quit playing because my friends refuse to settle on the same mods, and the vanilla game has almost fucking NOTHING as far as furniture and other internal decoration. Everything I build is just a giant empty shell with no chairs/tables/etc.
It's boring now. I think the reason I was entertained by it for so long was all the potential it had, and back in the day there were constant content updates that kept it interesting. Now they update it once a year with irrelevant crap. They spent all that time in the End, where most people just grab what they need and leave it alone forever.
Terraria started as a shitty Minecraft knockoff but managed to surpass it entirely.

Is there any non-vanilla mod which can add the least bit of life to this shithole? I don't want to play creative just to build stuff, I've done it in survival. Something that would make villagers like Sims would be cool - basically they all have needs that need to be supplied by either their houses or the city, and they have routings for jobs and stuff. I remember there was some SimCity mod which does this to an extent, though I don't think that was the actual name?

Just fence the surroundings and light everything up, put a few villagers, pigs and farms and things will come alive. Make postlights that only turn on at night, use noteblocks to make a song that plays at morning, catch a few ocelots and put them there too and you're done. The game isn't dull or anything, it's just that people fear creativity and only want pre-made stuff so there are mods, but even them have limited content.
I've been playing on the same map for two years now and making every place you go feel a little nicer and alive is something you will apreciate when you go back to that place a few months later.

Well you can help them by supplying resources in Millenaire, in MCA it replaces villagers so you can either spawn them or find some and have them follow you and assign them to areas. Custom NPC is quite modular and I haven't used it outside of placing a static guard with a custom skin. MCA adds sim like relationships and that sort. It's kinda nice.
