The thing with the new pokemon designs is that they're... I dunno, too colorful? Like, the older ones had a design and stuck to it, as well as a simple color pallete. It had a primary color fitting with its type, and secondary colors to complement the design. They were simple and recognizable. The new ones are too overdesigned in certain aspects. Like "It's white bug with an orange stop and green triangles with purple dots for eyes!'. It just looks like a mess.

But some of the designs are also super simple. Cutiefly, the mongoose one I can't seem to remember the name for, The starters are very simple, As ugly as the old dragon one is the design is simple. The only really 'complicated' designs are the railgun bug, the triggerfish, and megaultra chicken. Take a step back and look at them instead of finding overly complex things to care about. It is a good split.
You don't have to like all of them, not all the designs are good. Just like not all the designs in gen 1 are good. Different types of pokemon and their designs work for different people. There are still pokemon for everyone to enjoy. No one forces you to use any of them.

Gen 1 regardless of how much people want to bitch had the most consistent monster designs at least. Since it was also the first in the series it's only natural many people may have a bias towards the old games.

I wouldn't mind if Pokemon with levitate could still have a good hidden ability. Levitate makes sense for Pokemon that fly/hover but aren't flying type, they should have it for flavor. But they should also have the chance to have a different ability, like pretty much every other Pokemon.
I won't get my hopes up, but maybe that will change this gen. Kecleon didn't have a hidden ability in Gen 5 and now it gets Protean.

Probably a betta fish. They're infamously aggressive. The funny thing is though that they're actually not that aggressive compared to shit like angelfish or gouramis or like 95% of saltwater fish. They'll fight to show dominance and they'll have face offs with their reflections and shit, but they usually don't murder each other and prefer to stay a safe distance away and intimidate shit with their tails. You can even keep multiple bettas in the same tank as long as they were either raised together, or are all females and there are no males to fight over.
Angelfish on the other hand are incapable of thinking about anything except violent, hateful murder. They're like the piscine embodiment of Khorne. They prefer to pick on other species of fish, but they have a pecking order just like chickens do and you can tell who's in charge because he'll be the only one with his fins not completely ripped off after two weeks. If you have too many then the weakest ones will get eaten alive. Not because the other angelfish are hungry, but just because they feel like it.

The cannons are absolutely retarded, its just a big bipedal turtle with random metal barrels coming out of its body and shell, nothing even suggests its a metallic turtle and the fact its previous evolution randomly plays up some old age pokemon it makes the design even more nonsensical and incoherent.
Bug is awesome, dragon is dumb as shit but I love it. Tiki thing is just boring, and has a stupid, lazy name. Bee fly is cute but it will end up being a pointless, 200bst mon. Sonichu is shit, and the fish is one of the worst Pokemon designs. Absolutely awful.

Legitimately bad
The only people who think they are good designs are blatant contrarians. There is clearly a difference in design goals for new pokemon than for older pokemon. I'm not even a genwunner, but obviously gen 1 does have some merit for being the generation that made pokemon as hyper popular as it is now (also mascot is gen one and most popular pokemon movie is about the gen one legendary) but gen 2 and 3 are just as strong. Whatever happened after that is beyond me.
