How can people even like cyberpunk?

There's been no relevant or fleshed out cyberpunk games or books in ages, the last half-decent cyberpunk movies we had were made in the 80's.

I don't, it's shit and a retarded faggot millennial meme just like lovecraftian.

All of the above answers, plus it's just comfy. Not like a comfy place to live, but a comfy universe and atmosphere to be immersed in. Something about that Japanese city at night with rain and lights everywhere trope is just really interesting to zone out and think about all of the other implications of a 'cyberpunk world', such as cyberization, transhumanism, AIs, governments and corporations, and general technology, which are where the actual interesting stuff comes in, apart from the aesthetic.

The fuck are you talking about?

You have a world wide-interconnected network where people share ideas and trivial things

You have animated bilboards

You have personal data devices that are jack of all trades

You have universal connectors

You have automation of military machines

We have advanced bio-augmetics for limbs and body parts

We have 3 dimensional printing

Real life IS cyberpunk. The only difference is we put a cleaner smaller look on it. We hid the pipes and shrunk the machines, but everything in cyberpunk is a reality now

Modern consoles just feel like a PC-lite experience now, and I already have a computer I spend most of my waking moments using.

I'd say we're close. The point of cyberpunk is that all of this advanced technology that we are just now creating and researching is old and boring and commonplace now. Your average low-income citizen has access augmented bodyparts and such.

And the Earth's ecosystem is so fucked that we use machines in order to make the environment habitable. Although that one is actually becoming a scary reality... We will fund space travel not out of curiosity and the thirst for more knowledge and resources, but out of necessity of our survival.

This is exactly why its good cyberpunk stays small, once something gets too popular it becomes tired and worn out. Look at fads like zombies and steampunk. Both were more effective and novel when they weren't saturated with content, most of it being awful (Bioshock Infinite, most things made about zombies in the last 10 years, etc.)

We need to let capitalism and corporations to get really out of control before we dwelve into actual Cyberpunk territory. But we have the opposite force of enviromental concern and the concept of sustainable development to put capitalism in check right now. So we're still not there yet, we are a "light cyberpunk", or an "embryo cyberpunk".

>>
>>343460772
I don't give a shit. Bartender gameplay is not something unimaginable. At all. Such things have been done before, and I expected that here.
What I got was a poor VN by a retard with ebin 4chan memes. Although I should have expected the latter after taking just a quick look at everything related, but I though he wouldn't be stupid enough to carry this shit over into the game. Boy, how wrong I was.
>>
>>343460629
Im past the "first city" about 8-10 maybe more hours in. Its really good, if you are the kind of person who can ignore flaws like sensitive camera and walking.
I've been playing it like KOTOR meets Deus Ex. It has flaws like Kotor did, weak writing here and there, but there are some redeeming factors.
A lot of the bad reviews seem to be from how antiquated the RPG is compared to "open world" rpgs of today. It is open world like KOTOR, "worlds" or areas with corridors, no mounts and the like.
Story isn't great, but it's better than any modern Bioware game.
Unlike other RPGs you arnt some super force sent to change the world, rather an unlucky shit who literally was born as Mars falls into chaos over thousand year old secrets.
The combat is alright, again similar to KOTOR mixed with batman with no QTEs. The stances are sweet, 3 ways to fight and switch between with eletric magic boogaloo to supplement.
I'd say it's worth it if you'd like to play a super dystopian, Mars themed cyberpunk adventure.
Also some of the companions are actually interesting like the brillant musclebound mutant, the mentally inept doctor, and the singer turned spy.
Otherwise from what else I can tell the choices make a difference. If you dont side, or piss off, a faction enough it changes how the beginning goes as far as I can tell. I ended up not being a suck up and now I am hot shit, wondering if I played as a suck up if the game would be different.
Anyways tldr; I'd give it a 7/10.

>>
>>343458461
Cyberpunk tech is cool n all but it's nothing without the aesthetic and vibe. That's what people like the most about cyberpunk usually. People love steampunk because victorian chic plus DIY gear-wear. People like gothic settings because CATHEDRALS, leather and vampires.

Aesthetics of a setting are its lifeblood. I don't give a fuck if we have neon signs and universal collectors. I want to see street gangs with bright mohawks and american football vests lined with spikes.

So i'm sitting here listening to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VrsE3lGjnk , with a typewriter in front of me and thinking up cyberpunk ideas for short films I'll write and film this year. It's 20 minutes to 4am, the lights dimmed from a power surge and what I currently got is:

- Bedroom at night. Rain on the window pane, woman asleep in bed, man at the computer talking with an AI on the computer. AI tells him they are sorry for what happened. We get a sense of delusion from the man, as if he's hallucinating or having awful dreams that are shaking him.

I'd like to make it melancholy, perhaps without words and the important shit is either acted out or typed in, with a view of the screen. Perhaps just shots of the room and interactions with things around it.

A cyberpunk city is cramped, but in a way that makes you feel comfortable. And huge, which makes you also feel small, but in a way you're fine with. You want to keep being a small part of this cold, yet alive body, with neon lights as its veins.
Sunlight doesn't distract you anymore, rain brings you into the state of melancholy.
Technological advancement lets you isolate yourself more than ever and offers many things you may not even think of at first.
Most people choose isolation but there's plenty of those who start expressing themselves more, in various exotic ways.
Nobody knows how much power the government actually has anymore. But that's probably not even your business.
Many not-so-legal things just can't be kept under full control anymore. You may observe various ev-

I'm all for the human AI idea, but unsure about the dermal implant. Short films need to be simple to attract. It's an incredibly common mistake to try and cram as much as possible into a short, treating it as a feature.

I'd like to add more psychological, dementia or schizophrenia touches to it. Honestly, kinda like Dreamweb itself. In that the guy has recurring dreams of saving the world from an apocalypse and he believes in it so hard, you don't know if the game shit is real or if he's just delusional and going on a rampage.

Real life is too good to be cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk comes with an added dash of grime and dust that the modern world lacks. It needs weekly mechanized police riots and a growing population of thugs wearing mechanical implants for the sake of style. It needs martial law being implemented on a yearly basis due to the staggering number of internal terrorist threats and cults popping up like pimples on a thirteen year old with a pizza habit. Most importantly, it lacks the handsome and strangely ragged protag who stands diametrically opposed to this era of lawful lawlessness and can solve every problem with a mechanized fist and a simple cynical mindset oriented towards fixing this mess one laser shootout at a time.

It's going back to that now though. I mean look at Elysium and the new Star Wars, they were grungy as fuck

Yup. Plot is Kojima's basic aping of Blade Runner.

Except i don't like it because it's counter culture. I like it since it was thing, it just became the opposite of what we have incidentally.
>>
>>343468686
no I mean it's out there, and it's going to become more prominent and codified as the mainstream becomes more apple-fied

I like all the futuristic internet and cyborg shit. Shadowrun is fucking.

I don't know man. I'm 2 hours in to Snatcher and it's endless talking. I have to keep going through menus to get back to ask about the same thing again because then there's new dialogue.
Blade Runner was over and told a whole story in 2 hours

Well, i'm game for it. Those aesthetics really deserves the love.

Futuristic enough to have robowaifus and cool technology, not too futuristic where we still have shitty urban cities with neon lights and non-flying cars.

>cyberpunk images always have random moon rune signs
by chance that we someday live in a cyberpunk society, which of the big three moon languages will everyone be speaking? japanese, chinese or korean?
>>
>>343457479
>It will show everyone how great cyberpunk really is, even to normies.
Just like how TW3 showed them how great The Witcher is by turning into Skyrim 2.0? I'd rather not.

Japan was growing into an economical powerhouse back then, companies expanding and all, so it stick the idea the future would be full of moonrunes. Nowadays, we think about China though when looking at those runes.

Cyberpunk is already happening, it just hasn't kicked off completely yet. If you live in a metropolis like NY, you can see it happening already. Poor are cramped. Public transportation everywhere to connect the city. Lots of small shops and bigger shops. Bureaucracy of agencies administering it.

Problem with NYC, is that's entirely grid base with next to no elevation to it. Everythings on city level, along the edges of a box. Maybe you go down some stairs for stuff underground, but it's still directly adjacent tot he sidewalk. Nothing like OP with multiple levels and dimension which give the city depth. One street, is mostly like every other street.

Seoul is a pretty comfy metro area. It has half the countries population and is only growing since so much of the country's economy is based off it with a poor countryside. It's so urbanized, south korea has one of the worlds lowest birthrates, surpassing even fucking hong kong.

I'd probably say though it'd be a mix of korea and china. I imagine the koreas will unify, and then a rail will connect the littoral cities of china to the former north korean capital, and finally to seoul. Probably a free movement of workers etc to redevelope north korea.

Sheeeeeeeeeeit.

I can't stress this one enough. It's not strictly cyberpunk at all, but god damn the cinematography just makes it have a unique vibe.

I get what you're trying to do, I just can't explain it well.

God Eater doesn't have body mods or augments, but it is a dressup monster killing game.

Also not cyberpunk
>>
>>343469035
blade runner has no soul.
Harrison ford wasn't cast right.

no fun robot sidekick.

action sequences sucked.

monologue in the rain was dumb and contrived.

almost no actual cyberhacking, etc. even happened in BR. if you want decent cyberpunk watch GiTS anime.

>endless talking

and? what's the big fucking hurry? you clearly don't value your time since you're here.

This list is complete garbage and has always been. I mean, it starts with a non-cyberpunk game, why is it still a thing?
