The guns were not the focal point, melee was. When you fight with a combination of melee and guns using quick shots, dodges, quick weapon swaps during parries, etc. then the combat feels spectacular.
I'm looking forward to RE7 though, I really hope it's not just a walking sim. Even if the combat is toned down at the level of a Silent Hill game, that will work for me, if not be amazing, but a walking sim like the demo will be shit.

Alright so I'm a huge fan of RE1-4 and CV, is 5 and 6 worth playing just for the story? I lost interest but have been replaying 2 lately and kind of want to find out where it goes. Will I be disappointed?

A decent playthrough excluding the first two chapters of Leon's campaign (because at that point the game is still confused on whether or not it wants to be classical Resident Evil with huge ass rooms and 'puzzles'), and the ice cave area of Jake's campaign where you have to hide in fucking dumpsters like its fucking Amnesia.
Play it with a friend, Mercenaries is neat as hell.
