The issue wasn't only dlc, it was that the dlc was such a huge priority and there were piles of games breaking bugs on launch.

I liked the beta, played that for a while with friends.
By the time the beta ended we had enough already and didn´t have any desire to play more.
It was a fun game for a couple of days but then it really got boring.

and the game was just generally boring. It would have been better if rounds are brutal and fast when it comes to fights. Ingame everyone was just a fucking bullet sponge. If the monster hits you you fly around like a ping-pong ball and if you hit the monster it feels like you're shooting at nothing.
It also took fucking ages to enter a match.

But Evolve is a pretty good game
It was killed by no release content and stupid pricing for it
I had legit fun with it for at least 60 hours or so. Playing monster felt incredibly satisfying when you manage to fuck the hunters out until they break and panic. Pinning them to the ground and stalking them when there's a teammate of them out. Toying with them and devouring them for ultimate fuck you.
Also the characters and lore are top notch and really think they're underused in a videogame. It could work as a comic or mini series so well. The lore is actually interesting, and the banter between them is legit hilarious, no memelands tier humor.
Graphics are very nice and runs smooth. Thing is, that fucking DLC and pricing was the most awful idea ever.

Not everyone likes it, but ive never seen a hate boner for this.
I like this bat suit better and how the combat feels more brutal.
Also it has the best detective system in the arkham games.

Honestly, charging $10 for a single monster addition on top of the $25 season pass was bullshit. I never understood how they justified that at all.
Titanfall had the same issues for me. Game was fun, but the DLC they started pushing out were just map packs. No campaign or anything fun outside the addition of the defense game. What fun you could have in the game really depended on being able to que up for games in a decent time. But the traffic is down low enough that you often have to wait a long time just to have a party form up, then it drops out because someone disconnects.
that and who the fuck ever thought an auto-aiming pistol was a good idea needs to have their legs broken.

my biggest complaint is the damn upgrade system. Having hidden values that affect the modifiers for upgrading equipment is just a fucking dick move they pulled so people would buy game guides.
When I was a kid I remember getting an unofficial game guide for FF7. It had a half page for emerald and ruby weapons which boiled down to "These guys are hard. Good luck"

This is the primary reason I feel bad about Evolve dying, the writers put some fucking work into the shit.
