The problem isnt aoe. If you cant focus mercy properly, then change hero to adapt or save your ult and enjoy the extra long team fight.
The problem with mercy is her ult charge rate and amount.
Im gonna use an example from the old competitive meta from tf2, so hold on to your ass for a sec:
The quickfix in tf2 competative was banned because the "ultimate" charge rate was so low that it forced the other teams medic to switch to quick fix in order to counter double pushes.
basically, this is related to overwatch because a mercy can build a revive alot faster than a zenyatta or lucio or even symmetra can build ult, and you need an enemy mercy to keep up.
If you get a decent ult and continuously heal/damage boost during the next part of the team fight, you will have atleast 75% if not 100% ult at the end of the teamfight, MEANWHILE
the other team's support has already burned their ult and are charging around less than half unless zen and lucio are aimboting headshots or their support is ALSO mercy.
Recap:

>The team fight continues and ults are used here and there properly as needed.

2) I think her ult specifically should be based on time spent healing or boosting, rather than raw heal count. As it stands, having a cooldown for her ult would be more balanced than just healing a tank.

Almost everything about her makes Zenyatta unviable. Her heal is stronger, she has more hp, more mobility, and her ult is a lot easier to execute. Also she's the only character in the game that regenerates her own white hp bar, so she essentially has 200 shield hp.
