Why does Brazil hate Nintendo?
>>
>>343360840
Better question is who doesn't hate Nintendo and why.
>>
High taxes on vidya games if I recall correctly, also Nintendo basically gave up on BR.
>>
>>343360840

interesting to see how big 360 got on brazil, even though the og xobx was unheard of.

It has to do with the fact 360 was hardmodable to run burned copies, just like it was with ps1 and 2.

I guess most people who grown with burned games tried to keep it running, but as people aged, they started to get enough money for original copies.

Nintendo left Brazil in 2015.

Import tax laws, and Nintendo stuff is imported here since forever, so nintendo quitting is fucking nothing.

Also Like Europe here is Fifaland.

They werent wrong, though.

sony and ms built console factories here just before the economy go down the sink, and are stuck with the loses.

nintendo was going to do the same, then saw the crisis and left.

Even with this, Consoles and games are expensive as fuck here.

New releases are about 150-200 reais easy.Fucking PS4s can range up to 2k reais. Nintendo ironically is the cheapest stuff here.

SEGA had better reach in Brazil than Nintendo during the NES/SNES era, so most brazillians never developed nostalgia for them
a friend of mine, a cousin and I all had a Master System, and I didn't know anyone that had a Nintendo system (I did have a Gameboy Color at some point though)

the PS2 was so unbelievably popular (probably due to the well known easy piracy) that everyone and their mothers had one, to the point where I never even heard of the Xbox or Gamecube until later when I started researching and buying my own games and systems (aka when I stopped buying consoles and started gaming on PC)

Nintendo was never particularly successful in here mostly because other systems had an easier time selling to the Brazillian market

recently the Xbox One became the best selling console here because Microsoft started manufacturing them nationally, which allowed them to have a better price, making them a better deal than the PS4
I think Sony started building PS4s here in Brazil as well, but I'm not particularly sure of that

now that Nintendo closed their deal with their official brazillian importer, their products became a lot harder to find and obviously more expensive, so the small number of WiiU and 3DS owners wont grow at all, specially when you consider the fact that you never could use national credit cards on the eshop
I'm glad I bought most of the 3DS games I care about before this whole thing

a guy from Nintendo South America did say that they would like to come back to the brazillian market with the NX, but I honestly don't see how they would compete with the dudebro machines that are the PS4 and Xbone
I would love them to since I'm pretty hyped for whatever the NX may be, but I don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon

The Wii->WiiU fall saddens me the most.
>>
Things are expensive and not powerful to justify. Much better to buy something else that is slightly more expensive.
>>
Nintendo gave up on Brazil some time ago.
They have very high video game taxes, which Sony and Microsoft and somehow compensate since they manufacture some of the consoles there. Since Nintendo doesn't and they just imported them, they were getting fucked over by taxes.
>>
Nintendo is only known in North America and Japan.

Good write up and good digits anon.

It's fucking awful to own a WiiU in Brazil. While Nintendo was still here, it was mostly alright, but now that they left, all games need to be imported, and lately they've all been super expensive. A new release is at least 50 BRL more expensive than something for PS4 for example, sometimes that difference can go up to 100 BRL. This is why PC gaming is super popular here. Steam does regional pricing, and games are insanely cheap.
>>

who doesn't hate brazil
>>
>>343360840
Because they are already like a bunch of fucking children.
Europeans and the Japanese can tolerate cutsey childish bullshit because they are adults and it doesn't threaten their manhood. When they play, they just chuckle at how silly it is.
Brazilians actually start to look like adolescents when they play shit like Nintendo.
It's the same reason brazilian gangsters look like 5th graders when they show off their drug money. It's like " What are they going to spend it on? Mountain dew and gummy worms?"
>>
>>343360991
Sane people, because video games.
>>
Man Brazil is really fucking itself with the Olympics and the World Cup. I mean sure, the bidding process for major sporting events starts years in advance and I assume Brazil was pretty confident about it's economy at the time. But as a country of boom and bust they should've anticipated that a major sporting event may not of been economically viable in the future.

It's the same thing in Poland from what I've heard. Literally nothing but Sony products.
>>
>>343369354
This is actually incredibly accurate. Sony was insanely popular on the PS1 and PS2 gens because everything was so easy to pirate, but when the PS3/360 gen rolled out, no one bought PS3s because there was no piracy for it, and back then games were even more expensive than they are now. It seems fairly split on the gen though, where most of the older people who pirated on PS2 bought a PS4, and the younger people who pirated on 360 bought a Xbone, though I see more people moving to Steam instead of buying any of the new consoles because shit is cheap as fuck.
>>
>>343369354
>>343369750
It's easy as fuck to pirate games on Nintendo consoles but they don't really have games that normal people would want
>>
>>343369483
Point is, The Olympics is a huge money sink, even for developed nations like Britain. Brazil just wants to show it's mighty green and yellow cock to the world, but what they're really showing is that they have fucking herpes.
>>
>>343369842
That's true too. I had a Wii and pirated everything cause it was easy as fuck, but no one was really invested into Nintendo that much around that time, and as you said, there were no games for normal people.

Nintendo doesn't show the gritty reality that everyday brazilians know all too well, leading them to shy away from such silly, fantastical works where Mario always saves the princess and Link can do no wrong in slaughtering thousands of beasts to defeat Ganon yet again
>>
>>343369750
This seems to be the case in straya too. Without the piracy. PS2 was king here like it was everywhere else, so I assume alot of people have brand loyalty from those glory days. But 360 was cheaper for alot of it's lifespan so lots of kiddies started gaymen on it and in return have loyalty to MS. My shithead little brother and his faggot friends are in this category.

What you've also got to take into account is Multiplayer. People are more likely to get the console their friends have because of it and as such sales can snowball as more and more people acquire consoles. Sony out did MS on their early marketing so they had a head start on sales.

Nah, in the PS3/PS3 days, Brazil was more like Europe.

It's only recently the socialist government reduced to taxation on Xbox One while attempting to kill Playstation sales with taxes.

It's because Xbox One has factories in Brazil, while the PS4 doesn't. So Brazil government favours one over the other.
>>
>>343371457
The reason for the "even" split is because down here the 360 was the cheap easy pirating machine, just like the PS2 before it.
>>
Nintendo dont have a factory in Brazil so they are taxed to death. Also Brazil is so shitty that people barely do anything against the government they are the only country in SA where no one get free helicopter rides.
>>
>>343371915
That's hardly an excuse though. Sony doesn't produce PS4 in brazil either, and the PS4 is far more expensive, and yet it still gets marketshare.

>>
>>343373494

I don't envy console owners one bit, especially in this shithole of a country.
>>
>>343373727
Sony is really being niggers about their pricing lately. They used to price shit a bit cheaper when converting USD to BRL, now they're making them more expensive, which I guess may be fair considering the currency instability at the moment, but it's still retarded when a lot of shit on Steam uses a 2 or 3 BRL:1 USD conversion rate. Buying stuff digitally on PS4 is incredibly dumb because of how everything is usually the same price as a physical copy.

No, MMO devs shouldn't hate them, they should just be smart and make brazilian/south american servers as a containment for the cancer, and that's coming from an actual brazilian who doesn't speak portuguese anywhere on the internet. MMOs/online games in general need to find distributors in Brazil and/or just open their own server here, because IP blocking is retarded and means you're refusing money, and just allowing everyone to play on the same server is also retarded because no one can stand brazilians in online games.
