This man is the American Kojima and the gameplay twist in The Witness blows the fuck out of anything Kojima's ever done.

Also, his magnum opus took seven years and all his profits from the previous game to make, and unlike Kojima he actually finished it.

He is a pretentious asshole and that invalidates everything he has done
>>
>>343345507

Like Kojima isn't?

The Witness, unlike all the bullshit philosophizing in MGS V, has the pretentious bits as secretly hidden mood enhancers that are totally optional and some even have brilliant interactive secrets. MGS just has hours of cutscenes to shove down your throat; The Witness has only two, and they're endings.

Who?
>>
>>343345793

If you don't know it, seriously get out of this thread until you play it.

It's something you realize you can do that literally changes the way you look at the world. It's not spoonfed to you and I played 20 hours and got the regular ending before it was... spoiled for me by assholes on /v/.
>>
>>343345891
American Kojima
>>
>>343345793
You play as someone playtesting a game also called "The Witness."
>>
>>343345297
He's a literal autist who took philosophy 101 and sees himself as Socrates, and doesn't realise nothing he's said or done is in anyway inspired.

>The Witness has only two, and they're endings.
william shakespeare wrote his entire name in backwards in the dialogue and names of all his plays but you have to skip a different amount of letters from the beginning and end of the plays and also you have to sing the notes that the letters annotate rather than actually read the letters out loud. he wasn't ever born and most certainly not in the back of an old radioshack next to a mall, some carmack wannabe saw to that.
>>
>>343346093

That's not the gameplay twist and besides that it isn't as concrete as that.
>>
>>343345297
blow is an insufferable hipster faggot who makes boring puzzle games and hates video games as a medium

the fact that he can't manage money well and cant make enough money from the trash he shits out should not be in his favor

>>
>>343346174
Ohh, so the environmental puzzles you mean.
>>
Is the 'twist' that you can do puzzles in-world?

I don't know how it's a twist if it was shown off before the game even came out.
>>
>>343346186

What? Braid sold shitloads and The Witness outsold it in less than a week.
>>
>>343346008

If you actually discover them for yourself instead of having it spoiled for you by careless idiots on /v/, it's mindblowing, and some of them are insanely clever.

It's pretty much that the lines you draw aren't actually confined to the puzzle panels, but the whole island is filled with them.
It feels really eye opening to find out since you start looking at the environments in a completely new way
>>
>>343348847
So the twist is that there is more puzzles than the ones that the game shows?
>>343349245

The whole game conditions you to look at things in certain ways, then does a twist in each logic set that requires you to look at it differently.

It's like a Metroid game where the world is gated by your own intuition and understanding. Everything is solvable at first glance, but you just have to understand what you're looking at.

Everything is hidden in plain sight.

Even the position of the clouds in the sky relative to where you are standing is significant.

>>343349725

Did I miss a secret twist in The Witness or something? Nothing blew my mind. Sure, it's a better "twist" than MGSV:PP's, but that's only because PP's was done poorly. If it was done properly, the PP twist would've been god tier.

Is there another twist in the Witness other than the VR IRL one? I can't be bothered to replay it.

The Witness is actually hilarious though and in great fun.

It has the entire 10-minute ending of a Tarkovsky film in it, with a lingering camera zoom over no action, and there's a puzzle hidden in the frame, over the film. That's badass.

The fact it makes an explicit and direct connection between the mediums, and the implication this has for film as a (inferior) medium, alongside everything else does make it great art. It is as brilliant as anything else to find an interactive secret hidden in a film excerpt.

>>343348359
I don't fucking get this moron.
I live in a country where people either play Fifa or games with guns, and there hasn't been a mass shooting since 1975. That's BEFORE videogames.
And it's not because "the people don't have guns" that's bullshit. At least 20% of homes in the capital own at least one handgun, gypsies carry guns, niggers carry guns, there's gun stores on main avenues in most major cities.

The mass shooting problem isn't with videogames, it's the PEOPLE. American people are DISEASED.
American mass shooters don't mass shoot because they play gun games.
They play gun games because they WANT to mass shoot.
>>
>>343353419
>Shooting guys are mental activities. The representation or medium is irrelevant.
>>
>>343354049
Also, the people who carry out mass shootings generally carry them out in States that have more strict firearms restrictions (Like California) or places that would not have ample access to them.
>>
>>343354049
>American people are DISEASED.

You're a moron.

Some people have mental illness and easy access to weapons. That's probably the biggest factor.

others are terrorists and/or ideologically driven. They also have easy access to weapons

don't know how you could ever call that mind blowing. it's an "oh wow that's really cool" moment. but what's actually done in the game with it is pretty lame imo. because it doesn't lead to more puzzly stuff, just "find a way to stand in the right position and then trace a line" stuff which is super lame imo.

by the time you notice it you will have walked all over the island several times doing tons of different puzzles. all of a sudden you will notice a weird formation in the environment (probably a different one for every player) and you realize it's a puzzle that is embedded into the rock and tree formatinos of the area you're currently standing in or whatever. and then you realize those fucking puzzles are EVERYWHERE and I mean EVERYWHERE. you will walk back from the beginning and start seeing puzzles in the environment everywhere.

it's pretty damn cool but wouldn't really call it mindblowing.
