ITT: Pure ludo (video game equivalent of "kino")
>>343344158
Uhmm... excuse me, but where can I look up the definition of these epic /tv/ made-up words?
ĐiệnWorlds
It hasn't been as fun ever since WB marketers started using it to push their shitty superman movie
SotC
Reminder that /tv/ thinks dumb trash like Drive is kino, making that meme completely meaningless
>>343344158
>tfw can't resolve ludokinotic dissonance in my game design
>>343344813
>having kino in your ludo
>>343344740
Doesn't mean /v/ can't allow the meaning of "ludo" to diverge from /tv/'s pedestrian interpretation of "kino."
Not saying it's going to happen, but it's still a remote possibility.
>>343344928
What's the problem again?
Call of Duty Ghosts
One of the purest
>>343345414
it isn't pure ludo if you mix up kino in it
pure ludo are games like dark souls that tell the story through the environment
>>343344158
The only pure ludo video game ever made.
The Original Ludos.
>>343345864
They still have kino on DS
Kino isn't a problem, how you use it is
>>343345864
This. Also, no MGS game would be ludo, as they are mostly movie games.
Ludo is about gameplay (though gameplay may possibly drive story and other things). Ludo is the highest level of gaming: every frame, every mechanic, every in-game player decision - a transcendental experience.
>>343346345
So Doom is probably the Gold Standard
I'll vouch for Frozen Synapse as ludo
>>343346710
DooM is probably ludo. Also, Descent.
Frozen Synapse definitely.
>>343344158
ICO/SOTC
>>343346345
>MGS are movie games meme
And then when we got a fully "ludo" game with V, it turned out to be shit and no MGS elements at all.
>>343346345
>as they are mostly movie games.
100%ing MGS2 Substance is the hardest and most fulfilling task of any stealth videogame. Better than Thief. Better than Chaos Theory. Better than Mark of the Ninja.
I'm not even joking either.
>>343347241
2 actually is the hardest MGS
>>343346345
>Ludo is about gameplay (though gameplay may possibly drive story and other things). Ludo is the highest level of gaming: every frame, every mechanic, every in-game player decision - a transcendental experience.
Guys there's a point where our memes, shitposting and irony need to stop. I think we've reached it.
>>343347668
How do you know he wasn't being sincere? This kind of sincerity is what /v/ needs.
>>343347843
With this board I can't even tell anymore.
>>343347007
Earthbound is better.
Is this the canonical list (in descending order, from high art to low art)?
Ludo
Computerspiel
Videospiel
Video Game
Videogame
Vidya
App
>>343348491
ehh, on second thought, remove "Videospiel." It could probably be absorbed into "Computerpspiel."
>>343348491
Ludo
Game
Interactive Experience
Thats all you need
>>343349450
I at least like "App" there, too, at the bottom.
There are "games" that are lower art than "interactive experiences."
>>343349450
What is an example of "interactive experience?"
>>343351230
Her Story
Gone Home
Journey
Heavy Rain
>>343351230
Gone Home, Last-of-Us, many VNs, some RPGS, etc.
basically games that have no real win-fail state an are not driven by their mechanics, they exist to tell a story more than anything
An example of Game would be something like Halo or Resident Evil, games that have soid mechanics that drive the game while the story is something of a bonus
Ludo is a game that does this all to perfection
>>343351429
>>343349450
>>343349592
>>343348491
Dwarf Fortress is ludo
MGS2 is a game
The Last of Us is an interactive experience
Fifa is an app
>>343348491
Ludo - Kino
Jeu d'ordinateur - Film
Video game - movie
Walking simulator / App - Flick
>>343351608
Last of Us do have many interactive experience moments but it's still a game. You can fail.
Also would add Telltale in the interactive experience
>>343351891
>FIFA is an app
what
I'm not into sports games but that makes no sense
I hope you have some logic to back it up because that sound some sort of muh tastes bs
>>343352861
>>343352540
I consider "app" to be the lowest form, as it is the most commercialized. Fifa is one of many examples of this - 100% commodity items meant to be replaced each year. No art here - just sales.
I suppose mobile trash might fall into this category, too, but for different reasons.
>>343352540
I kind of like Videospiel or Computerspiel over Jeu d'ordinateur, but Jeu d'ordinateur definitely isn't a bad term.
>>343353617
So what about Telltale games? They are definetly not ludo but they have some quality on it
Putting it on the same category as Gone Home that is a bad attempting to make something artistic seems odd
>>343354696
"Interactive Experience" dosent mean its bad, it just distinguishes it from actual games.
>>343354696
Are you saying they should be above Gone Home, or below it?
>>343344158
>ludo
>kino
Fuck off /tv/, you're not forcing anymore memes.
>>343354940
also this >>343354863
>>343354940
I'm saying they are different things
I think we are on an era where we should put a line between what is a game and what is an interactive experience
>>343355041
ludo is home-grown /v/, my friend
Let me break it down for the retarded among you.
A video game is a simple juvenile product aimed towards normies designed to waste your time with "fun" and "entertainment". Examples of this are MGS 3, Hitman: Blood Money, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Deus Ex, etc.
An interactive experience is an experience aimed at the true vidya pundits that realizes the true strengths of our incredible medium and produces actual meaningful and long-lasting content from it, what normies consider as "gameplay" can exist, but it's on the background of the actual art and heart of the experience. Examples of this are MGS 2, Planescape Torment, Until Dawn, Gone Home, etc.
Finally, there's ludo, the piece of art so masterful it breaks all boundaries and illusions of "fun" for the sake of actual deep and meaningful interaction with our great blue world. Only the most patrician of vidya masters will hold these in high regard. There's not as many examples of these as there are of the others, unfortunately, but a few off the top of my head are MGS 4, pic related and I have no doubts Death Stranding will join this illustrious list.

Solid bait
>>343355752
right?
Descent is Ludo
Quake is a videospiel / Jeu d'ordinateur
DooM is a video game
Halo is an app
>>343355240
Bravo, couldn't have said it better myself
>>343355703
>>343355752
>>343355817
Actually, I'm pretty sure that's a joke.>People actually taking the kino meme seriously and trying to do the equivalent for video games without any irony.
Kill yourselves.
>>343356169
the point was admiring the well crafted bait
Can Chinese Moot just nuke /tv/ already?
They make /pol/ look sane.
>>343346035
Kino is the problem. Everyone should filter everything with kino in it to dramatically improve this site.
>>343356436
What's so bad about /tv/?
"interactive experience" is a dumb term; too wordy. I like ludo / videospiel / video game / app better.
>>343356693
It's almost entirely memes and shit posting. I think the average age of posters is around 16-17
>>343356693
Too much /pol/ shit injected into everything.
>>343356843
>It's almost entirely memes and shit posting.
sounds like /v/
>>343356939
yeah /tv/ and /v/ and /pol/ are probably the shittiest boards on this site hands down.
Aurora is pure ludo
>>343356762
intexp is better to you?
>>343344158
Since Kino is about visuals, artistic merit and film qualities over narrative I declare Ludo (ludic: of, relating to, or characterized by play : playful ) is all about gameplay.
That being said MGS2 is indeed Ludo but thanks to its gameplay, not to the plot.
Super Mario Galaxy is Ludo.
SMT is Ludo.
>>343359503
>Since Kino is about visuals, artistic merit and film qualities over narrative I declare Ludo (ludic: of, relating to, or characterized by play : playful ) is all about gameplay.
Absolutely
>>343355240
No. Ludo is gameplay.
Videogames or Video interactive experiences is the one for cinematic narrative shit.
>>343359501
Why 64 Majora? Darker light?
>>343359503
I think that should be obvious
>>343359501
Sell me on Killer 7.
And Silent Hill has shit gameplay, shit interactions, shit enemies other than Pyramid Head and no ludic challenge. Even if we are talking just about plot and symbolism, Rule of Rose shits all over it. Thats the real narrative horror masterpiece.
>>343359958
3DS version can be used if you absolutely HAVE to, but the fact it has a different development team from MM64 shows that there are likely some things that were removed in transition. Not to mention MM64 has the superior lighting and grafix (in terms of complimenting the narrative and gameplay, I mean. Objectively, the 3DS version has superior grafix.)
I also believe the racism in the game was removed, but I couldn't tell you because I didn't explore that when I played it (and returned it since I didn't like it)
>>343359986
I can't describe it without even slightly spoiling it. All I can really say is that it's about the struggle between western and eastern culture, ideology, and moral values.
>>343344158
Back to /tv/ you memeshitting faggot
bump
>>343362585
Why is it that people always reach for storylines first when they look for "art" games?
Games have the capability to be art in far deeper ways than just telling stories - namely, through depth of mechanics and other aspects of GAMEplay.
