While it's the causer of most fucked builds, it's also usually the piece that builds you up well. There are many scenarios where a T block would be acceptable, but a Z block would be optimal. It's just that there's an equal amount of situations where the T block is optimal, and the Z block is completely awful.

I spent a few months neck deep in TGM. Honestly those are a pain, but square blocks are worse. Like sure you can end up with retarded z-block towers if you mess up, but one little square can mess up a perfect setup that literally any other piece wouldn't have messed up.

That's why you should stack flat, with ~2 small squares here and there. It becomes a problem when you have to remove a hole from inside of your stack and your well is somewhere in the middle.I never went above rank 3 in TGM.
