Was Final Fantasy VII and the entity Jenova inspired or influenced by John Carpenter's The Thing?
There seems to be a vast number of similarities to the point where it can't be mere coincidence.

The being you follow around throughout the story, the one who killed Shinra and frees you from the prison and took Jenova's body from the containment unit, is a puppet of Jenova. That isn't Sephiroth at all, it just has his memories as the real Sphiroth is encased in that giant chunk of materia in the Northern Crater, emersed in the Lifestream itself. I don't know if it's 100% clear whether the puppet is a close-to-success clone or if it's just a construction of Jenova itself, but it is clear that he is definitely not human.

Then there's this guy, who apparently had a similar plan. They're some kind of virus that infests and feeds on a planet before moving on to another. Honestly I think the story behind Deus in Xenogears was more interesting. Who can say that Jenova isn't an interplanetary weapon too?

I wish the game gave you the option of saving Aerith or Tifa, but you can only save one, like have Tifa jump in at the last minute and take the stab for Aerith.
If that was an option I so would have sacrificed Tifa in the game, I almost never use her in my party except when required but I always used Aeris, it fucking sucks that you get to keep Tifa but lose Aerith. Tifa is useless garbage.
John Carpenter sucks as a filmmaker and The Thing is a JOKE of a movie. The first 20 minutes are good, but then it's get's absolutely idiotic and commically funny.
The only kinda good movie of him is Big Trouble in Little China. Other than that, he sucks big ass.
