It's faster and has MUCH better 3D, yes. Now I can actually use the 3D since it's tracking me. The C-stick really helps but if you got that controller pro or what it is called, it really doesn't matter.

You can use the standard system update function, but double/triple check that you're in your CFW before you update. If you run an emunand, entering your system settings and backing out into the home menu will reset the system and boot you back into cisnand.

Yes, follow that guide to the letter, it will take some time. You can stop after Part 3 if you don't want A9LH, but I would go for it, A9LH is amazing.

ROMs are in .3ds format, and can only played on flascharts like Gateway or Sky. .cia is an installer file, which is what CFW use to install apps and games and shit. You can use FBI to install .cia files. You can use freeshop/CIAngel to download and install games straight from Nintendo's CDN. Otherwise, you can use a website like 3dsiso to download a .cia and use FBI to install.
My only regret is getting a 64 gb micro sd four years ago and never being able to use more than half of that until now

Forgot to mention for people installing freeshop, you need a file on your SD card. You can use that app to download it and keep it updated. The file is basically a database that contains keys for each download or some shit.

i have an old fbi injection 1.4.17 so I can't do the QR installs yet and I'm still running on rei 10.6

Whoever told you that is regarded. CIAs (even ones you buy legitimately from the eShop) do not have headers for online play, period. You can play online with CIA files just fine.
