You need to play 25+ matches before it gets remotely challanging and if you lose instead of trying again and working on your mistakes you need to do the whole 25+ match regrind again. I never said that strong Mechanics arn't the priority, hell, SFV despite all the hate it gets is probably one of the most solid fighting games i've had the pleasure of playing. That doesn't really excuse stripping the game from basic SP content and then in hindsight go "oops, we didn't know SP content was so popular" when no one buys the game.
Almost everyone agrees that SFV is really solid, but there's no denying that stripping the game of basic SP content has severely gimped the sales and reviews.

I had the same problem. Street Fighter relies on precision timing for combos instead of just hitting the right sequence, which is fucking hard to learn if you play a lot of Mortal Kombat.
You can get there, though. Just gotta practice at it.
