Nobody gives a shit about Left4Dead. It's a very boring game and its awful design has bred a very shitty community.
The only thing of note that Valve has ever created was Half-Life, and that really only had any visibility because Valve re-re-released the game eighteen times, bundled with mods made by other people (CS) and paid PC Gamer to give those rereleased versions GOTY awards several years in a row.
Everything else, they hired modders or student devs just long enough to have them make a game for them, and then fired them, keeping the IP.
