Star Wars Unleashed 1 and 2 look the same to me. Final Fantasy despite some scenes having more compression on 360, the graphics are the same. Dragon's Dogma pretty much the same after installing texture pack. Dark Souls I can't tell the difference.

In my experience, trying to play a steam game that has a patch available won't let you play until you've installed it, even in Offline Mode. Blu-ray drives simply can't keep up the speed, which is why games need to install several gigabytes to run.
The solution is to either go fully digital, like what PC more or less has become, or put games out on a new medium with large storage capacity and faster reading speeds, and flash memory is just that. The price of memory card production has also dropped significantly over the years, so I think some form of cartridges from Nintendo is a surefire bet.
