Red Orchestra 2 is pretty damn fun and allows you to play as both the Rote Armee and Deutsche Wehrmacht in multiplayer.
There is a very minimalist campaign that is basically multiplayer but with bots and cutscenes between missions in which you can play as the Wehrmacht.
Neither side is demonized or glorified. Troops on both sides are just portrayed as patriot soldiers doing their duty to their country.

The USF mortar is broken, they said they will fix it, it's not a buff, and they need a mortar in early game to cover some situations.
Tank destroyers were stupidly underperforming, compared to the Axis ones.
That last patch is the only one where Relic actually balanced the shit out of this game, and they didn't even nerf axis, just tweak some units so that they perform other tasks.

Sturmpios have the schreck package now and Captains don't spawn with zooks anymore and Panzergrens could always get schrecks.

Also; all other factions except US get their healing for munitions instead of fuel, but US healing is mobile and not a giant fucking target for all enemy artillery. It's also cheaper. US also get to repair wherever, whenever insanely fast. Don't tell me that's not a huge fucking nerf when the only reliable source of healing is also your tech building.
