It was a real casual guild as well. Filled with like young adults and 35 year olds. I was the youngest in the guild and this one mom helped me get to 60 and taught me how to play the game.
Eventually got into raids with them and became raid leader around Wotlk. They were really casual but super fun to play with.

meanwhile in EQ, it took an average of playing 8 hours a day for a full year just to reach max level, then even more time to get gear to be raid ready. Lord Nagafen and Lady Vox weren't killed for almost 2 years after the game came out, because of how long it took to get 60-90 people raid ready.
Take your baby mode 40-man nonsense where all of the content in the game was conquered not even half a year after release out of here. WoW required very very little effort and skill on the part of the player compared to the Big Three (Ultima Online, EverQuest, Asheron's Call)

If you hadn't grinded your spellcasting (mana regenned slow as fuck if you didn't have clarity/breeze buffs that jews charged you for if you lacked an enchanter (class) or cleric/etc friend you would have to sit on your thumb recasting spells of the same subgroup of spells over and over again to gradually (extremely gradually to get to 200/200 cap or whatever it was at the time) you had a decent change to *fizzle* your fucking spell, losing the mana and having to recast the shit again.
Nothing really assisted with mana regen other than sitting and 'meditating' which at first meant you had to have your spellbook open like a fucking tard until they made it a passive ability, that also leveled + items.
So there was a chance to fuck up your casts for buffs in EQ. Not defending it, but that's how it was.

Everquest is still fun desu.
Take a look at it's map design, and compare it to World of Shitcraft. I hate the fucking trend to making every single map just another open field with slightly different landmarks.
EQ had fucking hidden tunnels, sewers you enter after falling into a well, massive cave networks with false walls, forests that felt enclosed like forests should.
I wish more MMOs had map design with some effort put in.

EQfags are the worst, but I would've loved to play EverQuest in it's heyday, or for something like it to be released nowadays.
The way it was designed ensures that you can't cheese anything. If you wanted to play the game, you had to git gud and find out what to do yourself.
Just started on kronos 2 - it's quite fun actually, as I just started when they changed the servers and it works smoothly.
Also population on it is around 2k I think which is idea for vanilla, it has healthy amount of players - so you won't have to wait forever on shit - and you will always have someone to party for quest elites.
I'm looking for a tbc realm tho - but can't find a pristine one.

Wildstar had to learn a very important lesson: Casuals keep the lights on. Hardcore raiders might be the loudest and most active players but they're being outnumbered by casuals 100:1 so providing content solely for the 1% is only fine as long as you keep the other 99% in mind.
