It is a bit odd though that Battlefield is having one, but it does get people to talk more about it for longer than they would if a demo wasn't going on. Also Battlefront did have one, so this might just be a trend now for future DICE games.

I believe EA has you on file if you have an Origin account, and the higher your "veteran status" the higher chance you have getting in. Your veteran status is determined by how many battlefield games they detect you've played. I don't know where to check that though. I just know I've owned every Battlefield since 2142.

To my knowledge the closed alpha is only for PC, because they specifically say that the code you get should be put into origin.
They have already confirmed an open beta is happening though, which most likely will come to Ps4, Xbone, and PC sometime in either mid August or Early Sept.We'll most likely get the date either at the end of this alpha, or at gamescom.
