Star Fox Zero was a disaster yet Miyamoto went out of his way to make it more like 64. Does this mean Star Fox 64's formula actually can't survive in the current market and Nintendo was right to change the formula up after 64?

Star Fox Zero was a failure due to shitty design choices, like insistence on the second screen gimmick, the shitty crawler, and fucking stealth sections in a Star Fox Zero.

They got close but unfortunately Nintendo couldn't turn their brain off long enough to make it work.

Star Fox is one of those series that is notoriously overthought. You just gotta make a fun rail shooter with good replayability. Also forcing weird controls on us was dumb.

Yeah they kinda worked. But I still would rather play the remake of SF64 on my DS.

To those who played Star Fox Zero.
Was there ever a moment where a mission or action seemed impossible without using the Gamepad controls?

Its called Kid Icarus Uprising people.

Not for me. I 100%'d the game.

To expand on this. The contols aided functionality but were never imperative. I generally believe they aided the experience but think Nintendo would have been better off making them optional.
>>
>Port Star Fox Zero to the NX
>Dub it Star Fox Zero Directors Cut
>Add more content in general
>Give it online multiplayer, local competitive multiplayer, and bots
>Have control options
>Use the NX advantages to improve graphics and frame rate
>If possible cram an entire sequel in it with Zero being "Episode 1" and the "sequel" being "Episode 2"
>Advertise the multiplayer
Sound good?

We'll of course it does but it would never happen. Dinosaur island 2 here we come.

The controls were the biggest failing of Zero, Not that they weren't functional (or maybe they suck; I haven't played it). but that it took up way too much time and resources. They spent who knows how long perfecting them instead of making more levels and they drastically cut back the visuals to accounts for another screen running.

>That moment where Hades shows up and it turns out the game isn't actually done
That was fantastic

No. The problem, funny enough, is that Zero wasn't ENOUGH like 64.

- Mediocre controls.
- Almost no on-rails sections, not even a single rail boss.
- No content or proper branching paths
- Less planets
- Teammates are even more useless
- Seriously, what the fuck where they thinking with the locked camera on Aquarosa and Andross? Fucking horrible.

I feel like someone can make a 30 minute to hour long video on where Star Fox Zero fell flat.
>>
The worst part about making this game so damn much like SF64 is that you can't help but compare it.

>All right! Zoness!
>it's a gyro level

>All right! Meteor!
>it's a Great Fox escort
>it occurs twice

I played every level, got through Arcade Mode, but returned it before 100%-ing it because I wan't having any fun.

I can't remember the last time I returned a 1st-party Nintendo console game. It made me think that maybe you fuckers are right about Miyamoto.

Star Fox Zero is the most disappointing thing since my son.

Got any memorable lines from the game?

No, they're mostly just slightly altered from SF64.

The gyro constantly and the second screen at most every boss and every time you go for bonus hits on already downed enemies.

This.

All you fucking need is a rail shooter, dialogue from the characters, good music, and multiple paths to take. How is that so fucking hard?
