The guy is clearly gonna be a major figure in oil, the general story is going to be about how his company caused a massive oil spill and it was in some way his fault and he's having a psychotic break over it.
The child is his child who died because of oil poisoning or some shit, the whales are obvious and the handprints are all the people that were directly or indirectly killed because of the spill.
Not sure on what his necklace is supposed to be but I suspect it's something to do with oil rigs. Maybe some kind of pressure holder or some that he forgot to plug back in or check or whatever and that's what caused the oil spill.
