Ballistics modelling now also factors in air resistance so your SMG rounds decrease in speed over range too, so you're disadvantaged in ranged engagements even further since the amount you need to lead targets will increase non-linearly.

It is historically accurate that colonial troops were used. Maybe not in every battle where they're available, but then they'd have to lock customisation options to particular maps. Besides, none of the battles happen the way they did in reality, so historical accuracy can only be guaranteed up to a point. The moment you bring player choice into it it goes out the window.

Battlefield 4 is a fun game that I've enjoyed for 170 hours now, and I would like a new shooter at some point.

Those aren't real reasons to avoid buying the game. Real reasons to avoiding it not only include the content of the game itself (map numbers and game modes for example), but also the previous track record for DICE. BF4 shipped out like complete shit and it only got fixed later on.
I'll get it cheap in like a year after release.
