Silent Hill 3 is the single scariest fucking game I've played.
The ambient sounds, the surreal imagery, the soundtrack the enemy and their noises... I'm a pretty fucking brave person but exiting a room in SH3 always gets my blood pumping.

It also helps that the game is decently challenging in the harder difficulties too.

Currently at Omricon in that game and its so fucking creepy.
It's what I love about Frictional Games is they don't rely on shitty jump scares but they rather make you anxious in what's going to happen with Atmosphere and Music, especially the Music holy shit.
Better than Amnesia, imo.
But I am biased since I loved Penumbra. (not 2 or 3 tho)

Play in release order. They have godtier atmoshpere and puzzles. There is some combat but its shit, so play on easy or stealth the few levels where it happens.
