For the love of the industry and the franchise as a whole. Please don't make TESVI an "RPG" if you're going to completely fail at making it an RPG like you did with Skyrim.
Either you make a real RPG the TES games prior to Skyrim, or you man up and go all the way and make an action adventure game without RPG elements.

Would I be sad at seeing Bethesda drop the RPG aspect from the TES franchise? Most certainly, it's pretty damn sad to see that it would even need to come that. But I would still respect that decision far, far more than see them attempt to make some RPG look-alike game and then just fail miserably again.

The magic and crafting variety of Skyrim was worse than ever before and just terrible.
The different build options are railroaded as fuck in Skyrim and is a complete joke when compared to the majority of RPGs in general.
And lastly but also most crucially, your builds are fully optimized way too damn early. And beyond that point your character experiences no real character for the remainder of the entire game. Which is completely and wholly ridiculous. An RPG without character growth is hardly an RPG. In before someone makes the argument that "RPGs" are about roleplaying. That's hardly the case in a gameplay sense and it never was, the old classics that pioneered RPGs as videogames never had any such delusions and they were just out to emulate the game mechanics of RPGs. And if you want actual roleplaying you should play actual roleplaying games, and not videogames. Skyrim fails completely at being an RPG.
Which is a real shame. Because for all their flaws the previous games were pretty good at being RPGs. But I guess almost everyone who cared about that sort of stuff on their end has already left them. Bethesda has lost a lot of talent that either retired and or left to work with other people or other things.

Why exactly is Gamebyro a shit engine?
>>
>>343167567
No. The problem is their main source of income comes from the console market, and the console market hardware is dominated AMD. Bethesda utilise Gameworks in their titles, which is widely known to perform worse on AMD hardware. They can't produce anything better because they're jewing themselves with Gameworks.

>>
>>343168636
There are games that allows for more ample opportunities of pretend. Actually calling it "roleplaying" is kind of disrespectful to actual roleplaying games though.
But yes you're correct at how Skyrim is indeed pretty terrible at it. But I see no reason for why the game or the franchise at large should even need to pursue actual roleplaying.
For as long as they manage the RPG mechanics well enough, they'll be fine RPGs in the videogame sense. And that stands for all videogames in general.

It must have been Bioware or something that started to push the idea of "real" roleplaying being an actual thing in videogames and something essential for them to have. Claiming that they did it the best and attempting to have their games stand out from the crowd and sell their games from that prospect.
But we all know what kind of a farce that turned out to be. Either way. No one ever even pretended that videogames delivered actual roleplaying in the past. I am not entirely sure if it was Bioware that pushed that idea or if it was someone else, but it's most certainly a very modern idea. And no disrespect, but a quite silly one too if I were to say so myself. But that's a completely different topic and doesn't really have much to do with the TES games in particular.

Fully VA game is something you can never back down from after you do it once because it's seen as a sign of production value. Which is bullshit because RPGs are probably the only genre that suffered from inclusion of things like full VA and voiced protagonists in that it made RPGs compromise on content. Not to say it CAN'T work, because Gothic did it ages ago, but you need to scale your game appropriately. Fallout 4 showed just how much a fully VA protagonist detracted from options and lead to simplistic quest design.

Pretty much yeah. RPGs that doesn't focus on story extensively existed for decades before Baldur's Gate. Hell, there's an entire SSI generation of RPGs that did just that - story was always there, but wasn't the reason why people played those games.

Neverwinter Nights simulates the experience of playing premade modules relatively well. Skyrim is too fresh in my mind for me to slog through all that shit again. I don't know if I'm a retard but ES games just don't have any replay value for me. I just consume whatever I can find that's new.

Any attempt at doing different shit feels like a test to see how long I can resist going stealth archer. It's not like vanilla melee is interesting and casting just ends with "I now summon a bunch of goons, and also a magical bow I shoot stealthily."

I can't bring myself to go for strict RP in a single player game either. Shame ESO sucks so much ass, and online ES game where it's just you sharing a world with 5-10 people would be fun.

I also want to know this.

One of the things I love most about TES 4 and 5 are the hundreds of physics-enabled items that can be interacted with and looted.

I know lots of games have physics clutter, but in TES most of the items are actually something of value or interest, not just random rocks and clutter, even if there is some of that too.

It makes magic especially feel great and powerful when you launch a fireball and see the inventory of a room explode and bounce everywhere.

>also, you should really consider about using one of these item-locking mods for furniture and stuff, they work a wonder when decorating shit

That's the problem with modern Bethesda games though - every time someone has a legitimate criticism people just say "well you can download a mod for that" when they shouldn't have to in the first place. Things should work by default and you should get mods to add more to the game, not fix it so it actually works the way they said it would before you bought it.

You're probably an alright guy and I'm not even the guy you replied to, I just really felt like getting that off my chest because Bethesda's fallen so hard lately and they still rake in cash when they shouldn't be. Creating a game full of holes and then having the community fix it all for free is bullshit and no one should stand for this.

He means there's no way to make the walking city of Falinesti with current consoles and engines.

Imagine Caras Galadhron from Lord of the Rings suddenly uprooting and walking through Lothlorien on its roots, all coordinated as a single entity though it's built on many trees with bridges and stairs.

The whole city up and walks.

Imagine trying to render that on an Xbox One.

Imagine trying to interact with that and enter the city as its moving in Gamebryo.

He wants to set TES VI in Valenwood, and its not being made yet because he can't do Falinesti justice.

Didn't Falinesti stop moving? (aka, the tower has become inactive, which is bad)

That always seemed like a setup to excuse themselves from making it move in future games they may or may not set there.

But then again. FO4 finally fixed physics for moving objects. And really, you could simply fake the whole thing by having the low res imposter version of the world moving around the stationary city. Then, when you're outside of the city, it's just a moving entity that the player and NPCs can walk around on to get inside or man guardposts.

it has a seasonal rotation with different resting sites.

So yeah, for much of the time, it'd be in one place, but .. it's easy in TES games to have months pass in game days, it wouldn't make sense for the city to be static through the entire game. Basically every 90 days It'd uproot and walk, and it'd take about 1 game day to move from one site to another (in a real world it'd take longer to move but we're talking the smaller scaled versions of provinces in TES games where an entire province is 16 square miles, that's not even one moderately sized city in real scaling)

>>
>>343179142

actually it has a skill system that'll remind you a lot of Guild Wars 1 really. You have a decent sized selection of skills available, but only 10 skill slots (5 on each weapon bar) plus 1 ultimate skill slot on each bar. So total of 12 skills usable at one time. Some people use that as a way to detract from the game because your "efficient keybinds for 48 skills at once" isn't important, but you and I, having played GW1, understand that it makes your skill build more important, that you don't have every skill available to you at all times.

ESO combat is a combination of Elder Scrolls single player combat and Guild Wars 1.
>>
>>343179395

I've heard you don't want to buy ESO on steam, because there's problems with the launcher and steam working together and you can't buy crowns through any means other than through steam.

Why do people want TES6 when it means modders will have to restart all over again from scratch fixing a broken game, and when every subsequent release of a Bethesda game has had more and more RPG elements stripped from it?

Skyrim is just now becoming an amazing game thanks to mods and you want them to release a new TES and kill it all?
