Is kickstarters reputation scarred forever?
>>
>>343165647

Nah, just not enough nostalgia.
Shenmue 3 got a lot remember.
>>
It's more just that the retarded hypetrain has passed reality has come crashing down.

People swindle and are bad with budgets, throwing money at something doesn't make a good game happen and people found out the hard way.

looks like there is a demo
>>
>>343165819
I dunno I think it's just no one cares about the project.

Not too long ago bloodstained blew passed anyone's expectations but then again SOTN is a well loved game and still popular among like speedrun circles and stuff in a way System Shock/2 really aren't. System Shock is kinda this niche product no one really wants now.
>>
>>343165647
Yes.

But 1/3rd of their goal isn't bad. I doubt they'll break 1.5 mill, but what can you do.
>>
>>343165647
Yes really, System shock is good but going though the while funding process is such a chore and hoping over the time period they don't mess it up, also all the kickstarter crap like 'get your face in the game' really puts a downer and cynicism on the whole thing.
>>
Night Dive is a fucking awful company, and they didn't even need to kickstart this, they did so out of pure greed.
>>
>>343165885
It's a little short for my taste but it's not bad. I understand it's pre-alpha, but it felt to short to really make a judgement on. Hopefully we'll get something more later on.
>>
>>343166731
>$200k to make Mac and Linux versions when it's literally the push of a button in Unity3D

You don't say.
>>
>>343166731
What's wrong with Night Dive?
If it weren't for them bringing System Shock out of copyright limbo, System Shock 3 wouldn't be happening right now

>>
>>343165647
This is day number 1. Mighty No 9 and Double Fine poisoned the Kickstarter well, but this will still get funded.
>>
>>343167228
Their System Shock EE is stolen work from a modding community. And if that wasn't bad enough, they hit the original modders with a cease and desist to force them to take their mod down so people would be forced to buy their ill gotten remake.

Why is there no AA in this piece of shit
>>
>>343167378
>this will still get funded
I hope not. There's no way these fucks can be trusted not to ruin System Shock. Especially if that garbage demo is anything to go by.
>>
>>343167317
It ran well on mine but there was a lot of stuttering despite the framerate staying above 80.
>>
>>343165647
>Got one third it's funding in one fucking day
Of course kikestarters reputation isn't fucked. Some people will be cautious, but countless fucking retards will still throw their money at half baked promises and fill the devs wallets, funding stretch goals and then giving even more money due to "tight budgets"
>>
>>343165647
nah they just have to have something significant to show before begging for money
>>343167317
lower resolution helped me a great deal but yeah even the minimum requirements are pretty high
>>343167402

>>
>>343167454
Night Dive literally buy dead franchises that other publishers will never touch and keep them available. Why is this bad?
>>
>>343167317
What are your specs? I have an older gpu (about 4 years) and it ran perfectly fine for me. No stuttering or frame drops.

>>343167416
Pretty sure I read a dev comment in a previous thread saying it's the art direction for the game. Image got posted but I didn't save it.
>>
>>343167402
Do you talk out of your ass often?
The people who made SSP worked DIRECTLY with Night Dive Studios to help make the enhanced edition.
Night Dive didn't steal shit, and the fan modders took SSP down voluntarily. They say so themselves on the forums.

it was never anymore than a cult series. i like system shock but they overestimated it's fanbase. just like deus ex and thief, loud but small. and it doesn't even play like system shock 1 but system shock 2 which doesn't even please anyone because people who say they like system shock 2 dont play system shock 2

The fact that this isn't getting funded by the first day is a step in the right direction. I doubt they are going to get the money they actually want for the game.

portable was just the original game + mods obviously they can't distrubute the original game anymore and voluntarily took it down but the mods are still available

>>343167826
no, that is exactly what happened go read the systemshock.org posts
>>
>>343167826
Google for two seconds and you'll see that that IS what happened. Night Dive didn't steal anything
>>
>>343167976
pretty sure deus ex fanbase has gotten larger. especially with a new game around the corner. it's not like thief or ss at least. man, I'd love a deus ex remake though. this really could use it.
>>
>>343165885
The demo is pretty good compared to what I expected from the latest gameplay video. You can change the strength of the Sparq by pressing F for example (this was my biggest fear since I thought they were going to simplify the weapons), and apparently most of the omissions like missing audio logs aren't included in the demo because it's an early as fuck build.
>>
Kickstarter can only fund small games for a video game 1 million is just a few pennies. As the chink would say you get what you paid for. Although there is some obvious thieves like that shitty RPG that some guy wanted to put on Dreamcast.

>>
>>343168047
They're gonna get the 900k easily, they already have a third in just one day.

I doubt they'll get many stretch goals, but it doesn't matter. They'll still pocket a shit ton and then claim the budget was tight when they release the piece of shit. There's literally no consequences to them just taking an easy payday and half assing the game.

Hell if they bitch enough they'll get articles written about them.

>>
>>343167801
Yeah man you may want to look into upgrading.
>>343168063
Yeah I saw a lot of people complaining about it, but it doesn't particularly bother me. It kind of works in this situation. I can understand why though.

Isn't SS1 or 2 being redone by an independent team of modders? Heard it was just a map viewer right now and in open source. Pretty sure ND was okay with it as long as they didn't try to sell it.
>>

>>
>>343168283
You can lean, it feels a bit different though and you can only stand or crouch in the demo, no idea if they'll change this in later builds.
>>343168591
The later.
>>
>>343168296
it's better than just re-releasing it with dosbox which is something they could have done or ss2 without ss2tool making it completely broken
there was one guy doing a 1:1 remake in unity called citadel on moddb but i think it has been abandoned since EE and this new remake

That's a good amount of money for just the first day.
>>
>>343165647

It's just a remake so I don't really care in the first place, already played it a while ago and it was fine.

Kikestarter consistently proving that it's shit obviously doesn't help either.
>>
>>343168778
That would have been so much better than the abomination we're getting now.
>>
>>343168920

>>
>>343168591
>modular lean system
It was a crutch to play with mouse only, like if you are disabled and have only one hand. It would be nice if they had something like this as optional control, but your typical fps player doesn't care about it.
>>
>>343168140
It's a fuck ton more positive to see a demo rather then just videos or even just concept art. For a kickstarter to have a demo is impressive and that's fucking sad.

>>343168947
'We want the bioshock infinite audience' bad.
>>
>>343165647

>It's been abused and misused so much that now people don't want to use it, dooming those niches back to the void.
Thanks, humans.
>>
there are a few things different from the original. instead of two cameras there are three in the starting area. no dartgun under the stairs either and running speed has been halved. and an animation for everything which pisses me off, so its not a 1:1 remake. how the fuck do you read emails?
>>
>>343168920
It's being developed, memer man, nigh dive wouldn't shut it down
>>
>>343168984
I think every videogame kickstarter should include a demo by default. That way people can know not only the quality of the concept but this also forces the devs to work at least a little bit first before earning thousands of shekels.

Remake, unless you love the idea of an FPS that feels like a point and click I do. Still its too early to say, since they are in the process of butchering the atmosphere. If you like cheesy 90's retro futuristic cyberpunk shit, go for the original. If you like SS2/Deadspace/Bioshock atmosphere go with the remake.

Literally nobody cares about System Shock. It lacks the Nostalgia and promise that fueled Shenmue 3 and Bloodstained to such heights. A few neckbeards here and there heard about it and will put the cash down. Frankly, System Shock wasn't ever really good in the first place, hence the lack of real support.

The sad thing is if they just asked for 200k more in the base kickstarter, or created a separate kickstarter with a 200k goal for Mac and Linux I'd be more likely to chip in for that. As it is they've sort of screwed themselves because no Linux user is going to contribute until the Linux version is confirmed, and at the same time after fiascos like D:OS and Skullgirls Linux users are far less likely to throw money at games just because somebody mentions Linux.
>>
>>343178656
Linux is hardly a big demographic to begin with.

I'd be surprised if they meet any stretch goals, but I'm sure they'll get ~$1m no problem. The pre-alpha demo shows they're not completely incompetent when it comes to technical things, so I'm sure the gameplay will be acceptable. The game was a niche game.
It got a sequel because even niches games could be had been profitable enough to make a sequel in that time.
I'm surprised that they ask more than 2 millions to make the game "like it's supposed to be" with their kind of view.
I don't think a game like this need sugh high amount of money to make.
PS: There is even maxof2d, which make me even less likely to back it anyway, even if there is Chris Avellone on board.

This is coming from a cRPG stalwart from the RPG Codex but I still don't want it in THIS game. Also, forget the orchestral music... does not fit System Shock at all. The original soundtrack (or variation of it) is the right way to go and spend any additional resources.

I think there's some dissonance between the original fanbase of System Shock and what this KS wants to do
