Never let mustard race tell you that PC is backwards compatible past DX9 or so. Earlier than that and things start getting mighty janky.

Look at the fps in the upper lefthand corner

it's over, pc bastard race is finished

DX1-8 wrappers such as dgVoodoo2 exist
>>
>>343156323
Why aren't they distroed with the games?
>>
wtf I hate PC gaming now
>>
>>343155806

Not to mention that the character models look really ridiculous at that resolution.

ini edits and compatibility mode solve pretty much 90% of problems. or just getting the gog version that's already prepatched.
>>
>>343155607
Glad to see I'm not the only one who's noticed this. Over the past year I've had to refund a bunch of classic PC games that just straight up don't work correctly on Win 8.1/10

PC gaming is actually getting worse over the years, it's insane.

Depends on the game. Some games have no problems while others are unplayable. I bought Croc 2 on PC at a book fair forever ago and just recently found the CD again. It installed and played perfectly and it's DX7. It suffers from some old game issues like stretching in widescreen and being locked at 30 fps (latter is more of a console port issue) but other than that it has no problems. It even works perfectly with a 360 controller and you can choose any resolution in game even if it'll stretch.

On the other hand Gex and Glover are unplayable on PC.
>>
>>343156684
Hey Mr Developer, you know that game you made 15 years ago? Could you provide updates for it please? Thanks!
>>

>ini edits and compatibility mode solve pretty much 90% of problems. or just getting the gog version that's already prepatched.
This is the gog version and I've tried editing the inis; it does have some effect, mostly in the menus but I can't get consistent 60 fps
>>
>>343157230
Talking about bundled with the game on stores that sell it like Steam and gog. You wouldn't sell a broken product...Or Would You?
>>
What game is this anyway?
>>
>>343155607
people are still playing shit on DOS, stfu
>>
>>343157236
So what's your PC?
>>
>>343157110
This is complete and utter bullshit. There are tons of games out there that even though you can get them to launch on newer Windows, they are riddled with random as fuck bugs.

I just uninstalled Silver last week because, after spending a few hours trying to get it to launch, the game started to hard lock when I reached a certain church in the game and no amount of tweaking did anything. This was the GOG version.

There are tons and tons of people complaining about old games not working on the GOG forums
>>
>>343157303
Looks like one of the Bloodrayne games.
>>
this is what legacy boxes are for

you guys don't actually throw away your old pc parts do you?
>>
>>343157236
Just try using dgVoodoo2 already, damn.
>>
>>343157353
Windows 8.1 i5 4440 and an Intel 4600 GPU ;) Come on, it's a game from 2002, it should play fine!
>>
>>343157598
Alright, gonna try to find it
>>
>>343157524
Would be cool to have a PC with dual boot Windows 95 and DOS and with a good CRT monitor but I feel like it would be hard to get the parts (since I never really played games on PC back then and didn't keep many parts from my family computers back then) and I don't really have any space for it anyway.
>>
>>343157127
To be fair Glover was unplayable on 90% of PCs when it came out too, it's not because of technology it's because it's a horribly made game.

I can play Quake on today's machines exactly as I remember playing it years ago, without a hitch, after one patch. With DOSBOX I can play any game from my childhood immediately.

Meanwhile consoles' backwards compatibility goes back to a maximum of two generations
>>
>>343157297
You not having a PS4 doesn't mean retailers should stop selling PS4 games, it's the same with PC games, stop being ridiculous.
>>
>>343157598
>>343157668
Sadly it's even worse.
>>
>>343157875
Do you honestly think anyone buying these games is buying them on junkers from 1999 running Windows 98SE?
>>
>>343158057
No, but you buying a product not made for your system and then complaining that it doesn't work on your system is just you being a fucking idiot.
>>
>>343158126
>No, but you buying a product not made for your system
So you admit PC is not really backwards compatible ;)
>>
>"upgrading" to windows 8/10
You deserve it.
>>
>>343155607
Played Bloodrayne a few months back and it worked perfectly fine.
>>
>>343158194
I honestly can't think of a single game I haven't been able to get running except for Gothic II but that's because I'm dumb as fuck and don't really fuck with PC anymore. If you're not a complete retard PC is backwards compatible, if you are then it's not. It's pretty simple.
>>
>>343158481
>WORKS ON MY MACHINE :^)
>>
>>343158529
And every machine I've ever owned, and my friends' machines when they say they can't get shit to work and I unfuck it for them. Keep being lazy though, it's really none of my business.
>>
>>343158340
Yeah, but you weren't using a fucking Intel GPU like the OP is.
>>
>>343155607
Bloodrayne works fine on windows 7. There's even a fix that lets you use a 360 controller.
>>
>>343158657

There's the problem. It doesn't on 8.1 and probably doesn't on 10.
>>
>>343158876
>upgrading to 8 or 10

It's your own fault.
>>
>>343158910
I upgraded from Vista to 8 ;)
>>

>>
>>343158971
>>343158910

You'll all be using 10 eventually. You'll all be fucked. Remember this post.
>>
>>343159207
By the time I'm forced into Windows 10, it'll be less shit.

Still doesn't mean I won't hold out until then.
>>
>>343159338
>By the time I'm forced into Windows 10, it'll be less shit.
No, no it won't. Do you really think MS is going to fix compatibility with old games? Do you think they're going to let you choose what updates to install rather than taking all or nothing?
>>
>>343159478
>it'll be less shit.
I never said it won't still be shit.

I used to dual boot XP for the exact reason

i have this problem with gothic 1,2 too. game look squeeze.

Devs sometimes cut corners and system patches kill compatibility. But most of it can be easily restored, unless you want to play DOS games, then welcome to dosbox
