They literally already have done, Oblivion was shit, Shivering Isles was alright then Skyrim and it's add ons was an accurate representation of what it would be like to get raped to death.
They'll never make a game as good as skyrim again, so who cares? Better let the series die before we get a shit game like oblivion again.
Bethesda lying for the sake of profits (buy Skyrim special edition!!!) is not news.
It's probably true because Bethesda are churning out shitty add ons and will be reimplementing paid mods soon enough.
Add to that their shitty mobile game and Bethesda probably won't have to make another game for a decade.

this is probably a difference in what Todd and Hine consider "working"
when Todd said "we're working on it" he meant drawing up plans and storyboards and artwork and stuff. which I think is probable because Todd was saying things like "we know what we're going to do, we just don't have the technology for it yet"
but Hine meant "we're not working in it" as in "no actual programming/development is being done at the moment"
