Sorry I worded that poorly. I mean more like romantic attachment, not like friendly camaraderie. Leaders need to be able to trust their soldiers and soldiers need to be able to trust their commanders, and friendships form naturally from that sort of relationship.
On the other hand, getting romantically involved with your subordinates is not a good idea. Once you start putting romantic love into the mix (as opposed to a familial love like brotherhood or something), you get mixed results. On one hand it can be just a deeper bond, but on the other it can put you more on edge because you feel you have more to lose if that person is killed or injured. Romantic love can also make you act irrationally or disobey orders (because you are more inclined to take risks for that person, which could get you injured or killed). Of course that's not always the case, but it can happen and that's why you would need to set strong boundaries to prevent it from happening.
