Already looks better than most fucking full games that get shoveled onto Steam on a daily basis, so you already got that going for you.

My one suggestion is maybe instead of having him lift himself up onto platforms when he's clinging on them, maybe flip himself up somehow? Might add a bit more character. He already has tons, I just thoguht it might be cute. Might ruin some flow though,don't know. It was just the one animation I felt looked a little lacking.

Really likable character. Roll with it.

The enemies need to stand out like him. To me if feels like they're not part of the game. Maybe make red squares with 4 nubby feet and no eyes. Give them little mouths with sharp teeth that open and close in 2 key frames of animation. Like the idle pose you have for your main character.

It takes heavy inspiration from SM64, but damn, Blanco has so much charm. Add some things to differentiate it, and you've got a solid game there.

Few things:

I noticed the movement similar to mario 64. This isn't a bad thing if you change things sightly. Maybe sure level design utilizes it properly and give players different paths to get to the same goal.

I think a really neat suggestion would be to sync his idle animation with the bpm of the music. Would make it way more adorable in some scenarios.

Make that explosion texture more 2d looking.

I'm seeing a winner here. Just don't make it a puzzle platformer. Give us objectives but let us complete whatever we want in a vast space. Don't stick us in hallways.

One thing Mario 64 did that you should keep in mind is the shadow always stayed directly under Mario. That was important for knowing where you would land for jumping. I'd encourage you to do the same for this.

The circular health meter doesn't match with the rest of the games aesthetic, something more blocky would look better.

The ability to zoom out the camera a little would be nice but not required if you design the levels around it.

Music is 9/10, gameplay looks neat, wall jumping may need to be tightened up a bit but overall it looks solid.

Subbed for you OP, I'll be keeping an eye on this. As everyone else has stated, your game heavily borrows from Mario 64, and that's a very dangerous move. I feel the game Axiom Verge suffers from how much it copied Super Metroid because when it comes down to it there was no one one man was going to make a better Metroid game than Super Metroid, and trying to make something so similar only hurt it in the long run. Make sure your game has its own identity. If you want a game with similar level layout and progression go for it, but make mechanics and movement options that are unique to your game because otherwise I'll just be playing a worse Mario 64, and considering Mario 64 is my favorite video game I can guarantee that I will drop your game and tell people that if they want Mario 64 to just play Mario 64. Good luck though, brother, I look forward for what you can bring us.

I'd play this whenever you finish it. The character is cute, I like his idle animation being 2 frames going up & down. It looks like you took inspiration from Super Mario 64 based on his walljumps & dashing forward move, possibly Zelda or Bomberman also for the bombs. The areas are a bit dull but it is a demo after all. The first area reminds me of Mega Man 3 & 5 while the red area reminds me of a classic Mario castle.

So are some of the sounds. The switch for example sounds a LOT like the one from Super Mario 64, and parts of the beats of the music I recognize from another Mario game, I'm just not sure which.

Most people wouldn't recognize it because the speed and tone are changed, but the beat of the music is the same. It's just small parts of the music, anyways.
