Are these games still worth buying?
Yes. Even if the online is dead, the trilogy are fantastic single-player adventures.
I remember putting more or less 200 hours into my pirated Dark Souls just dicking around with builds.

Online isn't necessary at all for Dark Souls. If you really need to summon then there are plentiful NPC summons.
The online on the PC port is fucked. having to manually connect to people on DSCM that I find on the dark souls broadcast section in community.

The online component isn't necessary. It adds to the experience seeing other players and invading and shit but you don't need it.

Not him but it suffers from:
Ugly graphics
Bad hitboxes
Soul Memory (a bad replacement for SL-based matchmaking)
Some awfully-designed areas (literal lineal corridors with nothing interesting on them).
I personally like it almost as much as 1, especially with the DLC chapters, but I can understand why so many anons hate it. My advice is, don't disregard it. You can even pirate it if you aren't sure.
