Why is Gears of War multiplayer so popular?
It has to be one of the worst multiplayers I've ever played.

When you get to a point where you're actually able to not be shit the kills in Gears MP are amazingly satisfying.
Heads exploding, bodies being turned into chili by your gnasher, sticking fuckers with a torque how knowing for a fraction of a second they can only think "shit" before exploding.
It's a visceral and satisfying experience.

I'm legitimately baffled at how this multiplayer is so popular, Halo I can understand but this shit is just dreadful. Xboners are starved for games I guess
It's a really solid TPS mechanically.
It's just the engine that lets them down because console shooters have dogshit standards.

Gears 3 and Judgement have the best multiplayer by miles.Gears 1 and 2 don't have dedicated servers and are quite clunky when it comes to movement.

How isn't it? Active reloading system rewards better players, knowing the map layout and weapon locations and when to rotate provides a better skill ceiling, and the weapons are all fairly useful and extremely satisfying to use on top of that.
There was a few balance issues, but that's not unheard of for most games.

Their server infrastructure has nothing to do with the game's internal mechanics. I agree entirely that Gears had awful hit detection and shit like host advantages.
