Marvel is fun but holy fuck, give me some variety in the matches. The pools are WAY more fun to watch than the finals because people actually use uncommon shit like MODOK.

Never EVER because of Marvel. Even if MvC4 was a thing, you'd never get any X-Men or FF characters in it, and it would be full of primarily characters who are also in the MCU. While this would be interesting for some characters like Ant/Giant Man, it would be detrimental overall as characters who are more obscure or veterans of the series would be overlooked.

Because the average fighting game has characters with around 40 moves which makes for much more options to utilize and to consider which creates a more in depth match.

Movement is much more important in your street fighters and guilty gears and such because the stage size and screen size are smaller meaning that attacks and character models take up much more space. The smallest step backwards or forwards means much more in those games because of that. That is one reason why Smash has matches that take place largely in the neutral because space controlling isn't as important.

It's responses like these that don't allow for the conversation to occur. You can't know what you don't know. These are flawed or mistaken lines of thought that demonstrate you need to familiarize yourself with at least the basics of traditional fighting game strategy and play. I wish I could recommend a good basic guide but I honestly don't know one off the top of my head though I'm sure they exist.

And true combos are a thing in other games too, what's wrong? At least in Melee you have to adjust your combo to your opponents DI/SDI instead of just pressing the same string of buttons.

That only happens in 4 relevant matchups, Fox vs spacies and Marth vs spacies, and it only happens if there's no platforms on the way, and you have to press way more than one button considering you have to perfect pivot at low percents and dash jc grab/uptilt(gets more complicated when it comes to Marth cging spacies) at higher percent, and again, you have to adjust it every time reacting to your opponents DI instead of just pressing the same string everytime with your opponent having no chance to escape it. Also you don't die from it, you just get high percent and go back to neutral/tech chase/edgeguard

Wobbling is escapable in the first few hits, and chaingrabbing can easily be dropped if not both executed perfectly, and if the opponent DIs where you aren't expecting. You say something is a guaranteed death and then immediately qualify that, AKA not an infinite. Look, as far as arguing if something "has a place in competitive fighters" is one thing- acting as if a game has to be perfect to qualify for a genre is ridiculous and ignores the fact that this is something Smash and traditional fighting games have in common in many cases. Keep in mind it's the application of fighting game concepts, and tight, well-implemented base mechanics, that make SSBM a favorite for competitive play. But this tourney's actually for FR, which will only come out in Japan and Korea a week before Evo, American players who have made it out to all the events it's been out have actually had more chances to practice FR than Japanese and Korean players will before Evo because of it.
