That's becoming increasingly untrue now that more and more MMOs are making controls idiot-friendly and reducing the number of abilities you're allowed to have at any given time.
Also, a lot of "gaming" keyboards stick macros and additional buttons to the left of your Tab/Shift, so there's no reason to shift your hands over just to access more keys.
