Look, I'll be fair here. Completely disregarding the many many shitposting "it's still only one game" stuff. It's quite Clear they won. Despite having one game that couldn't get as much attention as bethesda's whole conference, that one game alone still got more general attention.
People stampeded in to play the game, top 3 sellers on Amazon in less than 24 hours, most talked about on twitter. it's pretty undeniable, and the reason why it won was pretty clear the moment they first showed it off.
It got me the most excited so sure. But that could have been because expectations were so low.

It's Zelda, of course it's gonna make waves. This is the game of every gamer, non gamer, and gamer grill out there. Thing is Nintendo is putting all their eggs here, if it is another skyward sword they're fucked. Of course they have pokemon to save their asses.
I definitely think it won, but only because it's the one game at E3 that had a whole fucking conference and then some's worth of attention. We got trailers and snippets of some really cool upcoming stuff; with Zelda, we got hours upon hours of gameplay. There's way more to talk and be excited about.
Personally, I'm still a tad more excited for Horizon over everything else shown, but because BotW had so much to show, it's been the one I've looked at the most. Nintendo gambled a lot on that game and it paid off. I'm interested in NX solely due to the Zelda showing.

Combat's good, you can choose whatever weapon you want other than the old sword-and-shield, etc. It's like Dragon's Dogma meets Hyrule, but with an open-class system. Only thing I'm not seeing is puzzles, but I haven't really looked into it.

I didn't see any RPG shit either, so don't know what he meant there, but this is very disingenuous. It involves shooting arrows at the correct weak spots using the correct element, and then dodging a large variety of attacks.
Zelda only showed moblins, who are standard zelda combat fare, and the stone golem, who was stunned for 40 seconds from one bomb and just occasionally lazily swung while Link hits his weak point.
The combat in Horizon at this stage looks FAR better than BotW. BotW combat looks very typical and the same as other Zeldas. The addition of climbing might be interesting later, but in the fight we saw it was pretty lame since the boss got stunned for so long.

That's the only problem I have with BotW so far - combat looks too easy. They need to put out a Zelda with combat difficulty that rivals Dragon's Dogma or Dark Souls. Simply walking away while the boss winds up for an attack isn't exciting. Normally I'd say Zelda is more about the puzzles than the combat, but this one is different.

WW was also a "disappointment" because fans don't know what they want, and after a few years they wanted more of WW. It didn't look awful but I don't know what was so great about it either. I mean, it really just looked like a normal Zelda game to me. Same combat, same general idea with the items and dungeon. I was initially rooting for sony, when I heard the GoW music, since that's the only reason I got a ps4. My smile slowly faded throughout the whole gameplay reveal, and when it was over I was frowning. Bayonetta was cinematic shit and it wasn't a Nintendo exclusive, and has a shitty fucking combo system and awkward as fuck controls and environments that are littered with pointless details to the point that it's distracting from the gameplay, which itself is obnoxious and over-stylized and has no real substance.

A series as beloved as Zelda barely getting teased one year prior, and then this year they show up and pretty much EXCLUSIVELY show nothing but actual footage of a game that long in the making and that anticipated? It's a no-brainer that it would get tons of attention.

The dungeons were aesthetically pleasing but only the last few were actually good. Twilight Princess was disappointing from the buildup of the old trailers. They ditched the darker black and white zone for the pseudo-dark world that is the Twilight realm, as well as a more open Hyrule Field, expansive Lost Woods, Moblins, and at least one mini-dungeon or classic style temple. The game sacrificed originality for heavy Ocarina of Time pandering.
WW was disappointing at the time because everyone was expecting another realistic Zelda, maybe a sequel to Majora's Mask. Everyone had expectations that the next game would look like the space world demo, and instead they made the opposite. WW is actually disappointing in that they cut dungeons and exploration of Hyrule and replaced it with the most tedious fetch quest in all of Zelda.
