Both of those are vastly more costly than 144hz monitors, the difference in price between a 24" 1080p 60Hz monitor and a 144Hz one is $160 vs $200. A $40 difference on something you're going to use every time you play a game for years to make it better is a no brainer.

With the new supersampling tools released for VR, even a 1080 isn't really overkill. You can get real tangible results by rendering at 2x resolution. More so than doing on a monitor.

AMD's real hope is to make money from mobile and consoles and merge with another tech giant willing to provide them with the funds to fight both the GPU and CPU fight. AMD is like Germany during WW2 i.e. spread too thin across too many fronts where their enemies are far stronger than they are. AMD can't match intel and nvidia at the same time. If they can't be bought up by another company (like IBM or Samsung) they need to dump one of the markets they are in and focus solely on the other one.
