So I'm currently in development of a "War of the Monster" - like game. Haven't made name yet.

12 Characters
14 Stages (one for each char/2 bosses)
8 monster combat
Decent Destruction
Loads of random shit to use as weapons
Groups of humans with ragdoll effects.

Trying to get concepts for other monsters also while this is a fighting game, making them as diverse as I can without mucking shit up.

It'd be cool to have something that could blend in and ambush people, be it blending in (like predator or indominus rex) or actually morphing into something (like a transformer or a true shapeshifter).

A shark monster of some kind. Perhaps it gets an attack where it can 'swim' through the streets with its huge fin poking out while it burrows through the ground.

I'm looking to have a 2 character 1 level playable demo for people to try. However, I've been rather detail oriented in my work. I don't want to deliver shit.

I was thinking something like cherno-alpha from pacific rim. That's one of the first characters I'm in the modeling and animating right now.

Monster ideas... and you wanna go weird with them...

Kinda dumb, but I think it'd be funny to have a kaiju that's literally just like a giant kitten. Either a giant normal kitten that plays with trucks like balls of yarn or whatever, or you can make it a superpowered pink cheshire cat motherfucker that's weak but is fast and can teleport. Hit n run strats. Basically either that monster movie trope of enlarged normal animals, or you make it a weird supernatural creature with unconventional energy attacks like kineticlops (I liked how kineticlops was there representing all those weird unconventional monsters).

Instead of a japanese mecha parody like UltraV, you could have a like a parody of modern western mecha designs like the Michael Bay transformers and shit where they're all jagged, spiky, shiny, grey messes of shapes like in pic related (from some ad for car oil), have them transform into stupid shit for their attacks since I feel like the modern transformer designs are so complicated they can just transform into whatever the fuck without making sense because CG.

The best way to put the art style (as much flak as I will get from it) is an overwatch cartoony but serious art set up. This allows cool characters while setting up over the top bullshit.

Unless someone can show another game/cg that might be a better fit, right now my current work on this robot is pretty on par. I should have something to show in a day or two.

Love this one. Could be a slow moving/high damage character. If I remember correctly, these shrimps have an extremely fast punch that they use to knockout their prey so the punch should be fast but have a knock back effect so that the player can't spam it.

I like that you've decided on big, heavy, gorilla hands. One of my favorite things about the Robo47 character was how he could rotate various parts of his body for combos. I think your best approach for any robot character is go big and ridiculous. Drill hands, chest cannon, or mini missiles fired from the back

So I had a thought. One way you could approach the characters, in addition to classic kaiju parodies you could also work modern movie monster parodies, like the aforementioned bayformer parody. That way you're not limited to the same stereotypes War of the Monsters and other kaiju-influenced games use.

For the giant cat, what I had in mind was a parody of like the CG kid-friendly monsters like toothless in HTTYD, and how that was basically the same as Stitch from that disney movie. Y'know, with the big eyes and wide smile. I'm no artist but I just sketched it on my tablet in five minutes. Doesn't have to be a cat I guess, but basically a big-eyed cartoonish monster that looks like something that would team up with a child in a dreamworks/pixar kids movie, with the irony being that it's destroying the city instead of saving it.

Oh god its just a conglomerate of things that are potentially dangerous, like that stupid final destination monster that's not really a monster, just a supernatural force that causes every inanimate object to inexplicably become lethal.

Man I want that to be a kaiju. Like some unseen evil force has trouble trying to kill someone through circumstance so they're just like "fuck it" and causes an amusement park to form a monster, but not in a neat way just like a hodgepodge mishmash of rides all stuck together.

It's the thrill killer, the ultimate ride that you'll DIE for. There's no getting off this wild ride.

Couldn't make the TV screen work that well but I really like the roller coaster arm. Every punch could have an accompany scream from the riders, while the other is the boat ride.

How about a monster made out of buildings?

Like the monster itself being some "the blob"-esque thing that picks up buildings, trees and other objects and use them as some sort of armor/exoskeleton?

It could have low health/defense, but being able to regenerate health by gluing new things to itself (the more stuff you have glued on, the slower you get though).

If OP likes it, these could be alternate skins for the same character. One arm (boat) for strong close attack, the other (roller coast) for long attack and grab. Special attack, grabs the enemy and has the boat spinning for massive damage.
Also, OP, do you think you'll be able to make this game? It's an ambitious project, to say the least.

I'm back just going over what everyone's posted while I was gone. Love the Mr bones, will definitely be in the final game for sure. Might even make this as char number three to be a mascot of the project. He'll be a boss (unlockable char)

Okay so we have a HUGE list of monsters to have fun with. Let's talk combat >>343097517
as suggested. WotM had a solid base system. Special bar fills up as you do dmg with a small modifier to combo'd destruction. The grab system will be grab and throw with maybe a few free shots (dependent on char). All who are not passively faster will have a gap closer teleportation, flight some mobility. Now I'd like to stay away from stamina. The niche of each monster should be there and abundant but not over powered. It should have a strategy for the other archtypes to combat it based on skill obviously.

With support from the community I believe so. That is seriously a huge part of why I'm doing this. Plus making a game I can go online and play as a giant fucking rollercoaster monster in a destructable world would be worth the investment.

This is a life long dream of mine. Plus if this has any bump of success I have quite the archive of game ideas that I feel the studio (hopefully with more people in the future) can accomplish. I will be very open about SITD titles and have a huge community input.

Personally I'd love to see a Gestalt Entity/Robot. I don't know your best point of reference, but think Devastator, Voltron, Megazords. Lots of little robots that form a larger humanoid robot, the splitting part only really being an issue on their intro as they form and as a "finisher" or "super move" if your game has such things.

What engine are you making this in OP?
I may or may not have some experience modeling and texturing for Unity.

Animations I still haven't nailed down, but I know how to animate for film. Just don't know how to translate it for video games

Unreal Engine 4, Unity isn't really solid on fighting games due to how they have objects/players interact. Plus, I have always had a respect for Tim Sweeney. They're model on royalties is solid and fair.
