Why release a product that isn't finished?
This morning I am going for coffee. I am in the coffee shop. I came here with $2.00 and an expectation. I am here to do business. I approach the counter and make my order, one large dark roast coffee, one sugar, one cream. The cute brunette girl behind the cash register asks me if that's all, tells me I owe her $1.90 and takes my money as I hand it to her. She thanks me for my business and I step aside to receive my coffee.
Inside my coffee cup is what I ordered. A large portion of dark roast coffee with 1 portion of sugar and 1 portion of cream mixed into it. I drink it and I enjoy it. I am a satisfied customer and I will return.
The way Blizzard does business is different, much like many other companies in the media industry.
If this was The Blizzard Cafe, not my favourite mom and pop coffee shop, I would receive my cup and inside would be a large portion of dark roast coffee, but it would be missing the cream and sugar. If this happened to me, I would ask the cute brunette girl, or in this case, more likely Jeff Kaplan, where my cream and sugar is and if I can have it. He would ignore me. I would quickly become angry and when he notices this he would respond, saying that the sugar is being processed and is on it's way. Not only that, the cream is still but cow's milk in the utter of a bovine in Iowa.
I would not be a satisfied customer.
I would ask for a refund, but then the manager would come and tell me that since I've spent so much time holding that coffee, and anxiously sipping on it while pleading to Jeff for a proper coffee, that it's gone cold and I've drank half of it and no refund is available.
I think at that point I would throw what's left of that coffee at the manager's face, yell obscenities, trash the place, and likely get arrested by the police upon leaving.

Okay, at this Blizzard coffee place, about six months before they opened they sent out invitations to a bunch of well-known coffee drinkers (e-celebs) to try out their coffee so they could improve it. Then about a month before release they expanded to a large selection of people. Then a week before release they opened the coffee shop so that everybody could try out their coffee for free.
I could understand if it was something like Doom, where you couldn't pirate or play a demo, but this game was fully available for seven days for you to play in an unlimited amount of time. Even if you didn't participate in the beta you still have two hours to play to see if you like it or not.
Does it hurt being this fucking stupid? Video games are not coffee, you don't get to put in an order for what type of video game you like, they sell items and you consume them, no special order bullshit unless it's Kickstarter. If you don't like their coffee, then fuck off. In the two hours that you could play OVerwatch before refunding, you should be able to get in around eight to ten games, if they all go to time by the end of it. Are you telling me that after playing those ten games you don't have an idea of whether you like the game or not? And even if you did like it, and you think there should be more content, how about you, uh, I dunno, FUCKING WAIT? If you pick a six stack in OW you're probably the type of team who has other cheese strats in the pocket ready to go. 6 stacks are not neccisarily the only way to abuse lack of character limits. Again, this is something I'd be fine with if Blizzard knew how to design a game where having more of one character doesn't turn into an incredible force multiplier that can only be dealt with via a highly specific change in play between spawns.

If Overwatch's success wasn't indicative of quality it wouldn't maintain its userbase as it has. Popularity only has so much pull, which is why marketing hasn't made up for the shitty WoW expansions and subscribers have been consistently dropping. Hell you have Battleborn to compare it too, and yeah it is a given a blizzard title would sell more, but Battleborn fell hard on its ass because the quality of the product was so bad they couldn't even keep their fanbase playing (Gearbox/Borderlands has a pretty loyal fanbase)
You can argue that it doesn't meet your par of quality, but that is subjective, Blizzard literally did a genre they never did before that doesn't inherently appeal to the genre's their fans are used to playing and it's been a complete commercial success coming off of failures that shook their consumer base (Rocky D3 launch and several shitty WoW expansions and even lackluster SC2 reception).

Sure, which brings me back to my original reasoning why I don't like multiples of one character in OW: You have to go with very strict counter picking. It's not like TF2 where you can at least hope to at least out skill other classes that have the advantage on you. The skill gap has to be HUGE in OW for that to happen. I understand that is the point of the game, but there is always a best solution for what the other team is doing, there's not several possible answers depending on your creativity with the characters' abilities. Let me reiterate that I am aware that 6 or 5+1 stacking is not a gaurenteed win, but assuming no difference in animal or tactical skill then the first to force the counter pick game has control of thr game flow. That's not outright bad, but I think Blizzard could have made more meaningful design choices.
